"Find me cards equivalent to: Aerith, Last Ancient"

Equivalent cards to Aerith, Last Ancient (Legendary, GW, life-gain, graveyard recursion):
1. Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle — Returns small creatures from graveyard to battlefield, tied to casting historic spells.
2. Arahbo, Roar of the World — GW legend, but focuses on cats and combat, not recursion or lifegain.
3. Lurrus of the Dream-Den — GW hybrid, returns cheap permanents from graveyard; has lifelink.
4. Saffi Eriksdotter — GW legend, can save creatures from dying this turn.
5. Trostani, Selesnya's Voice — GW legend, lifelink, and supports life gain and tokens, minor recursion.

None do exactly what Aerith, Last Ancient does, but Lurrus of the Dream-Den is closest (lifelink + graveyard recursion), though limited to permanents with mana value 2 or less.

    Rules

  • Aerith's last ability checks at the moment it would trigger to see if you gained life this turn. If you didn't, the ability won't trigger at all. Once your end step begins, it's too late to gain life in order to cause this ability to trigger. However, the last part of the ability will check how much life you've gained as the ability resolves, so if you've only gained 5 life this turn by the time the end step comes around, you could still gain 2 more life while this ability is on the stack in order to return the target creature card to the battlefield instead of your hand.

  • If a Cat you control enters the battlefield attacking, it won't cause Arahbo's last ability to trigger.
  • If multiple Cats attack, Arahbo's last ability triggers that many times. You may pay {1}{G}{W} each time one resolves.
  • Notably, if your commander is on the battlefield and its eminence ability triggers, but it's put into the command zone before that ability resolves, that ability won't do anything as it resolves. This is because an object that changes zones is considered a new object.
  • Once either of Arahbo's triggered abilities has resolved, the affected Cat keeps its bonus even if Arahbo changes zones later in the turn.
  • The value of X is determined only as Arahbo's last ability resolves. If the attacking Cat's power is negative at that time, X is 0.
  • This commander's eminence ability is a triggered ability. The commander must be on the battlefield or in the command zone as the trigger event occurs and also as the triggered ability resolves. If the commander is in an appropriate zone as the trigger event occurs but leaves that zone, the ability won't do anything as it resolves.
  • While resolving Arahbo's last ability, you can't pay {1}{G}{W} multiple times to multiply the effect for one Cat.

    Companion Lifelink

    Rules

  • Before shuffling your deck to become your library, you may reveal one card from outside the game to be your companion if your starting deck meets the requirements of the companion ability. You can't reveal more than one. It remains revealed outside the game as the game begins.
  • For spells with {X} in their mana costs, use the value chosen for X to determine the spell's mana value. For example, if a permanent spell costs {X}{W}, you could cast it with X as 1 but not as 2.
  • If a card in a player's deck has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
  • If a permanent card is put into your graveyard during your main phase and the stack is empty, you have a chance to cast it before any player may attempt to remove that card from your graveyard.
  • If more than one player wishes to reveal a companion, the starting player does so first, and players proceed in turn order. Once a player has chosen not to reveal a companion, that player can't change their mind.
  • If you cast a spell from your graveyard using another permission, Lurrus's effect doesn't apply. You can cast another permanent spell from your graveyard.
  • If you cast one permanent spell from your graveyard and then have a new Lurrus come under your control in the same turn, you may cast another permanent spell from your graveyard that turn.
  • If you reveal a companion outside the game, for as long as it remains there, you may pay {3} any time you could cast a sorcery (that is, you have priority during your main phase and the stack is empty). Once you do, you put it into your hand and behaves like any other card you've brought into the game. For example, if it's discard, countered, or destroyed, it's put into your graveyard, remaining in the game. This is a change from previous rules.
  • Lurrus doesn't care about instant and sorcery cards in your starting deck. They may have any mana value.
  • Lurrus doesn't let you play lands from your graveyard.
  • Once you begin to cast the spell, losing control of Lurrus won't affect the spell. You can finish casting it as normal.
  • Paying {3} to put your companion into your hand is a special action. It doesn't use the stack and players can't respond to it. Once you take this action, you may cast that card if it's legal to do so before any other player can take actions.
  • The companion ability has no effect if the card is in your starting deck and creates no restriction on putting a card with a companion ability into your starting deck. For example, Zirda may be in your starting deck even if your other permanent cards don't all have activated abilities.
  • The companion's other abilities apply only if the creature is on the battlefield. They have no effect while the companion is outside the game.
  • The requirements of the companion ability apply only to your starting deck. They do not apply to your sideboard.
  • You may have one companion in the Commander variant. Your deck, including your commander, must meet its companion requirement. Your companion is not one of your one hundred cards.
  • You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions of the spell you cast from your graveyard.
  • You must pay the costs to cast that spell. If it has an alternative cost, such as a mutate cost, you may cast it for that cost instead.
  • Your companion begins the game outside the game. In tournament play, this means your sideboard. In casual play, it's simply a card you own that's not in your starting deck.
  • If you reveal a companion outside the game, for as long as it remains there, you may pay {3} any time you could cast a sorcery (that is, you have priority during your main phase and the stack is empty). Once you do, you put it into your hand and behaves like any other card you've brought into the game. For example, if it's discarded, countered, or destroyed, it's put into your graveyard, remaining in the game. This is a change from previous rules.
  • Once you put your companion into your hand, it behaves like any other card you’ve brought into the game. For example, if it’s countered or destroyed, it’s put into your graveyard, remaining in the game.
  • Paying {3} to put your companion into your hand is a special action. It doesn't use the stack and players can't respond to it. Once you take this action, you may cast that card if it's legal to do so before any other player can take actions.
  • Wizards of the Coast has issued functional errata for the Companion mechanic. Instead of casting companions from outside the game: Once per game, any time you could cast a sorcery (during your main phase when the stack is empty), you can pay {3} to put your companion from your sideboard into your hand. This is a special action, not an activated ability. It happens immediately and can’t be responded to. It can’t be countered or stopped by cards like Phyrexian Revoker. • Saffi can be the target of its own ability. In this case, the ability won't resolve because its target is illegal, so Saffi won't be returned to the battlefield, but any abilities that check when or if a creature dies will see that it died.
  • Saffi's effect works only once. If the target creature dies and is then returned to the battlefield, it's considered to be a new creature. If that new creature dies, it won't come back.

    Rules

  • A card, spell, or permanent is historic if it has the legendary supertype, the artifact card type, or the Saga subtype. Having two of those qualities doesn't make an object more historic than another or provide an additional bonus—an object either is historic or it isn't.
  • An ability that triggers "whenever you cast a historic spell" doesn't trigger if a historic card is put onto the battlefield without being cast.
  • If the mana cost of a card in your graveyard includes {X}, X is considered to be 0.
  • Lands are never cast, so abilities that trigger "whenever you cast a historic spell" won't trigger if you play a legendary land. They also won't trigger if a card on the battlefield transforms into a legendary land, as the Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan double-faced cards do.
  • Some abilities trigger "whenever you cast a historic spell." Such an ability resolves before the spell that caused it to trigger. It resolves even if that spell is countered.

    Rules

  • Trostani's first ability checks the creature's toughness as it resolves. If that creature has left the battlefield, use its toughness from when it was last on the battlefield. You can't lose life this way if that creature's toughness was less than 0.
  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied token will trigger when the new token enters the battlefield. Any "as [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[this creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the copied token will also work.
  • If you choose to copy a creature token that's a copy of another creature, the new creature token will copy the characteristics of whatever the original token is copying.
  • If you control no creature tokens when you populate, nothing will happen.
  • Populate doesn't target the creature token you're copying. You choose that creature token as you're taking the populate action. You can choose any creature token you control. If a spell or ability causes you to create a creature token and then instructs you to populate, you may choose to copy the token you just created, or you may choose to copy another creature token you control.
  • The new creature token copies the characteristics of the original token as stated by the effect that created the original token.
  • The new token doesn't copy whether the original token is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any noncopy effects that have changed its power, toughness, color, and so on.
