"Find me cards equivalent to: Gale's Redirection"

Equivalent cards to Gale's Redirection (Instant, Blue, Exile/Counter & cast) include:

  • Narset's Reversal — It copies and returns a spell, letting you cast the copy.
  • Spelljack — Exiles target spell, lets you cast it later with mana of any color.
  • Covetous Urge (UB) — Exiles and lets you cast a spell, but is not instant nor mono-blue.
  • Mnemonic Betrayal (UB) — Temporarily lets you cast exiled cards, but not an instant.

Closest direct equivalents for blue instants:

  • Spelljack
  • Narset's Reversal

Reason:
Spelljack is the closest blue instant that exiles a spell and allows you to cast it later, just like Gale's Redirection. Narset's Reversal is similar in interaction, but returns the target spell to its owner's hand after copying.

  • Casting an exiled card causes it to leave exile. You can't cast it multiple times.
  • Covetous Urge's effect doesn't change when you can cast the exiled card. For example, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty.
  • If you cast an Adventure with Covetous Urge, it's you, not the card's owner, who may cast the creature later.
  • In a multiplayer game, if a player leaves the game, all cards that player owns leave as well. If you leave the game, the spell or permanent you control from Covetous Urge's effect is exiled.

  • Gale's Redirection exiles the spell directly from the stack without countering it. Because of this, it's effective against spells that can't be countered.
  • If the exiled card is an adventurer card, you may cast the Adventure spell this way.
  • If the spell had {X} in its mana cost, X will be whatever value it had on the stack when calculating its mana value.

    Rules

  • If you cast a spell this way and that card is exiled, it’s considered a new object. Mnemonic Betrayal no longer allows you to cast it. It remains in exile when Mnemonic Betrayal’s delayed triggered ability resolves.
  • In a multiplayer game, if a player leaves the game, all cards that player owns leave as well. If you leave the game, any spells or permanents you control from Mnemonic Betrayal’s effect are exiled. If you leave the game before Mnemonic Betrayal’s delayed triggered ability resolves, the cards remain exiled.
  • Mnemonic Betrayal doesn’t change when you can cast the exiled cards. For example, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty.
  • Only the cards that remain in exile are returned to their owners’ graveyards. For example, a permanent spell cast this way will remain on the battlefield.
  • You can’t play land cards exiled this way.

Exile all opponents' graveyards. You may cast spells from among those cards this turn, and mana of any type can be spent to cast them. At the beginning of the next end step, if any of those cards remain exiled, return them to their owners' graveyards. Exile Mnemonic Betrayal.

  • If a copy of a spell is returned to its owner’s hand, it’s moved there, then it will cease to exist as a state-based action.
  • If a spell is returned to its owner’s hand, it’s removed from the stack and thus will not resolve. The spell isn’t countered; it just no longer exists. This works against a spell that can’t be countered.
  • If the spell has damage divided as it was cast, the division can’t be changed (although the targets receiving that damage still can). The same is true of spells that distribute counters.
  • If the spell that’s copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Finale of Promise does), the copy will have the same value of X.
  • If the spell that’s copied is modal (that is, it says “Choose one —” or the like), the copy will have the same mode. A different mode can’t be chosen.
  • If you copy a spell, you control the copy. Narset’s Reversal and the copy resolve before the original spell would have resolved.
  • Narset’s Reversal can copy any instant or sorcery spell, not just one with targets.
  • The controller of a copy can’t choose to pay any alternative or additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any alternative or additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy.
  • The copy is created on the stack, so it’s not “cast.” Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won’t trigger.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell it’s copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can’t choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).

Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, exile it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard. You may play it without paying its mana cost for as long as it remains exiled. (If it has X in its mana cost, X is 0.)
