    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • A copy is created even if the spell or ability that caused the delayed triggered ability to trigger has been countered by the time that delayed triggered ability resolves. The copy resolves before the original spell.
  • A spell or ability with a cost that includes X, but not the mana symbol {X}, won't be copied.
  • Activated abilities contain a colon. They're generally written "[Cost]: [Effect]." Some keyword abilities are activated abilities and will have a colon in their reminder text. Triggered abilities (starting with "when," "whenever," or "at") that ask a player to pay {X} aren't copied.
  • Any choices made when the spell or ability resolves won't have been made yet when it's copied. Any such choices will be made separately when the copy resolves.
  • If a permanent spell is copied, it's put onto the battlefield as a token as the spell resolves rather than putting the copy of the spell onto the battlefield. The rules that apply to a permanent spell becoming a permanent apply to a copy of a spell becoming a token.
  • If the spell or ability has damage divided as it was put onto the stack, the division can't be changed, although the targets receiving that damage still can. The same is true of spells and abilities that distribute counters.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copy will have the same mode or modes. You can't choose different ones.
  • Magus Lucea Kane's ability will copy any spell or activated ability whose mana cost or activation cost contains {X}, not just one with targets.
  • Spells with additional costs that include {X} won't be affected by Magus Lucea Kane. {X} must be in the spell's mana cost.
  • The copy has the same value of X.
  • The copy is created on the stack, so it's not "cast" or "activated." Creating the copy won't cause abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell or activates an ability to trigger.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell or ability it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If the spell is a permanent spell with targets, such as an Aura, you may also choose a new target for that spell. The new targets must be legal. If, for any target, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).
  • The copy will resolve before the original spell or ability does.
  • The token that a resolving copy of a spell becomes isn't said to have been "created."
  • The {C}{C} created by the mana ability doesn't need to be spent on the next spell or ability with {X} in its cost in order to copy it. That spell or ability will be copied even if that mana is spent on something else or not spent on anything at all.
  • You can't choose to pay any additional costs for a copied spell. However, effects based on any additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy too.

    Rules

  • As the token is created, it checks the printed values of the creature it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it.
  • Each time the first ability triggers, you can pay {U}{R} only one time to get one copy of the spell. Each time the second ability triggers, you can pay {G}{U} only one time to get one token.
  • If the copied spell has {X} in its mana cost, the value of X is copied.
  • If the copied spell is modal (that is, it says “Choose one —” or the like), the copy has the same mode as the original spell. You can't choose a different one.
  • If the creature had {X} in its mana cost, X must be 0. Note this is different from an {X} found in the mana cost of a copied spell.
  • If the creature that caused Riku's second ability to trigger has already left the battlefield by the time the ability resolves, you can still pay {G}{U}. If you do, you'll still put a token onto the battlefield. That token has the copiable values of the characteristics of that creature as it last existed on the battlefield.
  • If the spell that caused Riku's first ability to trigger has left the stack by the time the ability resolves, you can still pay {U}{R}. If you do, you'll copy the spell as it last existed on the stack.
  • Riku's first ability triggers whenever you cast any instant or sorcery spell, regardless of whether that spell has targets.
  • The copiable values of the token's characteristics are the same as the copiable values of the characteristics of the creature it's copying.
  • You can't pay any additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any additional costs paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy. Notably, if the original spell was kicked (or kicked a certain number of times), the copy will also be kicked (or kicked that many times).

    Abilities/Keywords

    Double

    Rules

  • A copy is created even if the spell or ability that caused Unbound Flourishing's ability to trigger has been countered by the time that ability resolves. The copy resolves before the original spell.
  • Activated abilities contain a colon. They're generally written "[Cost]: [Effect]." Some keyword abilities are activated abilities and will have a colon in their reminder text. Triggered abilities (starting with "when," "whenever," or "at") that ask a player to pay {X} aren't copied.
  • An ability with a cost that includes X, but not the mana symbol {X}, won't be copied.
  • If a permanent has an ability that triggers when it's cast and that references the value of X, you choose whether to double the value of X before or after that ability resolves.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copy will have the same mode or modes. You can't choose different ones.
  • If the value chosen for X is 0, Unbound Flourishing will double the value to 0 for permanent spells, and copy other spells and abilities.
  • If you control two Unbound Flourishings, the value of X for permanent spells will be multiplied by four. If you control three, it will be multiplied by eight, and so on. On the other hand, spells and abilities that include {X} will only be copied twice if you control two Unbound Flourishings, three times if you control three, and so on.
  • Spells with additional costs that include {X} won't be affected by Unbound Flourishing. {X} must be in the spell's mana cost.
  • The copy has the same value of X.
  • The copy that Unbound Flourishing's ability creates is created on the stack, so it's not "cast" or "activated." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell or activates an ability won't trigger.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell or ability it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. The new targets must be legal.
  • Unbound Flourishing raises the value of X for permanent spells, but you don't pay any more mana.
  • Unbound Flourishing's ability will copy any instant spell, sorcery spell, or activated ability whose mana cost or activation cost contains {X}, not just one with targets.
  • You can't choose to pay any additional costs for a copied spell. However, effects based on any additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy too.

    Rules

  • All costs to cast a spell are locked in before mana abilities are activated and those costs are paid. If Vadrik's power changes after costs are locked in, or if Vadrik leaves the battlefield while you are activating mana abilities or paying those costs, the cost reduction effect won't be affected and the total cost to cast the spell won't change.
  • Before a player untaps their permanents during the untap step, the game checks to see if the day/night designation should change.
  • Day and night are designations that the game itself can have. The game starts as neither. Once the game becomes day (or less commonly, night), the game will be exactly one of them—day or night—going back and forth for the rest of the game.
  • If a triggered ability triggers whenever day becomes night or night becomes day, it only triggers if it was already either day/night and becomes the other. It does not trigger when the game becomes day or night for the first time.
  • If it is day, and the active player of the previous turn cast no spells during their turn, it becomes night.
  • If it is night, and the active player of the previous turn cast two or more spells during their turn, it becomes day.

    Deathtouch

    Rules

  • If X is 0, the 0/0 Hydra token will die immediately after the ability's done resolving unless something else is raising its toughness.
  • If an effect, such as that of Parallel Lives, causes Zaxara's ability to create multiple Hydra tokens, they each receive X +1/+1 counters.
  • If the spell you cast has {X}{X} in its mana cost, the token gets only X counters, not twice X.
  • The Hydra token enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature. Any abilities that modify or trigger on this event apply. After the token is on the battlefield but before any player can take actions, +1/+1 counters are put onto the token.
