"Find me cards equivalent to: Mirrorworks"

Equivalent cards to Mirrorworks (colorless, artifact, similar copy/token creation ability) include:

  • Strionic Resonator (artifact, colorless, but triggers abilities, not copies artifacts)
  • Cogwork Assembler (artifact creature, colorless, creates copies of artifacts for {7})
  • Prototype Portal (artifact, colorless, imprints another artifact and can make tokens for its cost)

Note: Mirrorworks is unique in copying any nontoken artifact on entry, but these function similarly for artifacts.

    Rules

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied artifact will trigger when the token enters the battlefield. Any “as [this artifact] enters the battlefield” or “[this artifact] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the chosen artifact will also work.
  • If the copied artifact has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
  • If the copied artifact is a token, the token created with Cogwork Assembler copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that that created that token.
  • If the copied artifact is copying something else (for example, if the copied artifact is a Sculpting Steel), then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that artifact copied.
  • The token copies exactly what was printed on the original artifact and nothing else (unless that artifact is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether that artifact is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.

    Rules

  • As the token is created, it checks the printed values of the artifact it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it.
  • Each time the ability triggers, you can pay {2} only one time to get one token.
  • If the artifact that caused Mirrorworks's ability to trigger has already left the battlefield by the time the ability resolves, you can still pay {2}. If you do, you'll still put a token onto the battlefield. That token has the copiable values of the characteristics of that nontoken artifact as it last existed on the battlefield.
  • The copiable values of the token's characteristics are the same as the copiable values of the characteristics of the artifact it's copying.

    Rules

  • Any "enters" abilities of the exiled card will trigger when the token is put onto the battlefield. Any "as [this permanent] enters" or "[this permanent] enters with" abilities of the exiled card will also work.
  • If Prototype Portal has left the battlefield by the time its second ability resolves, you'll still put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of the exiled card. On the other hand, if Prototype Portal is still on the battlefield at this time but there is no exiled card (because, perhaps, Riftsweeper's ability caused the exiled card to be put into its owner's library), no token is created.
  • If the exiled card has {X} in its mana cost (such as Chalice of the Void), that X is considered to be 0. The {X} in Prototype Portal's activation cost takes this into account, though it may be greater than 0 if the exiled card has other mana symbols in its mana cost (such as Riptide Replicator).
  • You don't choose the value of {X}. Rather, the value of X is defined by the activated ability.
  • You may not activate the second ability if no card has been exiled with Prototype Portal. In that case, the value of {X} is undefined and can't be paid.

  • Any choices made when the triggered ability resolves won't have been made yet when it's copied. Any such choices will be made separately when the copy resolves. If the triggered ability asks you to pay a cost (such as that of Frenzied Goblin), you pay that cost for the copy.
  • If a triggered ability is linked to a second ability, copies of that triggered ability are also linked to that second ability. If the second ability refers to "the exiled card," it refers to all cards exiled by the triggered ability and the copy. For example, if Fiend Hunter's enters-the-battlefield ability is copied and two creatures are exiled, they both return when Fiend Hunter leaves the battlefield.
  • If the triggered ability divides damage or distributes counters among a number of targets (for example, the ability of Bogardan Hellkite), the division and number of targets can't be changed. If you choose new targets, you must choose the same number of targets.
  • If the triggered ability is modal (that is, if it says, "Choose one —" or similar), the mode is copied and can't be changed.
  • In some cases involving linked abilities, an ability requires information about "the exiled card." When this happens, the ability gets multiple answers. If these answers are being used to determine the value of a variable, the sum is used. For example, if Elite Arcanist's enters-the-battlefield ability is copied, two cards are exiled. The value of X in the activation cost of Elite Arcanist's other ability is the sum of the two cards' mana values. As the ability resolves, you create copies of both cards and can cast none, one, or both of the copies in any order.
  • Strionic Resonator targets a triggered ability that has triggered and is on the stack and creates another instance of that ability on the stack. It doesn't cause any object to gain an ability.
  • The source of the copy is the same as the source of the original ability.
  • Triggered abilities use the word "when," "whenever," or "at." They're often written as "[Trigger condition], [effect]."
