"Find me cards equivalent to: Obstinate Familiar"

Cards equivalent to Obstinate Familiar (red creatures that can modify card draw):

  • Obstinate Familiar – lets you skip draws.
  • Alhammarret's Archive (not red, but changes draw mechanics).
  • No direct red creature equivalent exists with the same effect, but Anvil of Bogardan (artifact) also modifies draws.

Reason: The ability is unique among red creatures; as of now, Obstinate Familiar is the only red creature with this exact effect.

  • Because Alhammarret’s Archive is legendary, it’s unlikely that one player will control two. However, if that happens, life gained by that player will be multiplied by four. Three Archives will multiply that life gain by eight, and so on.
  • If an effect would set your life total to a specific number that’s higher than your current life total, that effect would cause you to gain life equal to the difference. Alhammarret’s Archive will then double the amount of life that effect would cause you to gain. For example, if you have 3 life and an effect says that your life total “becomes 10,” your life total will actually become 17.
  • If two or more replacement effects would apply to a card-drawing event, the player drawing the card chooses the order in which to apply them.
  • In a Two-Headed Giant game, only the controller of Alhammarret’s Archive is affected by it. If that player’s teammate gains life, Alhammarret’s Archive will have no effect, even when that life gain is applied to the team’s shared life total.
  • Similarly, the effects of the last abilities of multiple Archives are cumulative. If you control two, you’ll draw four times the number of cards, and so on.

If you would gain life, you gain twice that much life instead. If you would draw a card except the first one you draw in each of your draw steps, draw two cards instead.

    Rules

  • If the draw part of the effect is skipped due to a replacement effect, the discard part of the effect is not skipped.
  • If multiple effects modify your hand size, apply them in timestamp order. For example, if you put Null Profusion (an enchantment that says your maximum hand size is two) onto the battlefield and then put Anvil of Bogardan onto the battlefield, you'll have no maximum hand size. However, if those permanents entered in the opposite order, your maximum hand size would be two.
  • If there are two Anvils on the battlefield, they trigger and resolve separately. This means that you first draw one card and discard one card, and then do it again. You do not draw two cards and then discard two cards.
  • The triggered ability is put onto the stack after you have already drawn your card for the turn.

Players have no maximum hand size. At the beginning of each player's draw step, that player draws an additional card, then discards a card.
