"Find me cards equivalent to: Spelljack"

Cards equivalent to Spelljack (Instant, Blue, counter and cast exiled):
1. Desertion — Counters and puts the countered artifact/creature onto the battlefield under your control.
2. Covetous Urge (not an instant, but lets you play a card from exile/graveyard).
3. Aether Snatch — Gains control of target spell; if it’s permanent, you put it onto the battlefield under your control.
4. Mindbreak Trap (exiles spells but doesn't let you cast them).
5. Misdirection (changes the target, not exile/cast).
6. Narset's Reversal (copies an instant/sorcery, returns original).

Closest: Aether Snatch is the most direct parallel to Spelljack for instants with a similar effect in blue.

Reason: There are very few blue instants that both counter and allow you to play the exiled spell.

  • Casting an exiled card causes it to leave exile. You can't cast it multiple times.
  • Covetous Urge's effect doesn't change when you can cast the exiled card. For example, if you exile a sorcery card, you can cast it only during your main phase when the stack is empty.
  • If you cast an Adventure with Covetous Urge, it's you, not the card's owner, who may cast the creature later.
  • In a multiplayer game, if a player leaves the game, all cards that player owns leave as well. If you leave the game, the spell or permanent you control from Covetous Urge's effect is exiled.

Target opponent reveals their hand. You choose a nonland card from that player's graveyard or hand and exile it. You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled, and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast that spell.

    Rules

  • If the spell is not countered (because the spell it targets can't be countered), then this card's ability does not put the card onto the battlefield. The spell continues to resolve as normal.
  • The card is put onto the battlefield, but any effects that check if the original card was "cast from your hand" will not trigger or otherwise consider the card to have been cast from your hand. The card was put onto the battlefield by the effect of Desertion instead.
  • This spell includes a replacement effect. If the target is an artifact or creature spell, it never goes to the graveyard.

  • For Mindbreak Trap's alternative cost to apply, a single opponent must cast three or more spells. Three opponents each casting a single spell won't work, for example.
  • If a spell is exiled, it's removed from the stack and thus will not resolve. The spell isn't countered; it just no longer exists. This works on spells that can't be countered.
  • Mindbreak Trap's alternative cost condition checks whether an opponent cast three or more spells this turn, not whether those spells have resolved.

  • If there is no other legal target for the spell, this does not change the target.
  • Once the spell resolves, the new target is considered to be targeted by the deflected spell. This will trigger any effects which trigger on being targeted.
  • The target of a spell that targets another spell on the stack can be changed to any other spell on the stack, even if the new target will resolve before the spell does.
  • This does not check if the current target is legal. It just checks if the spell has a single target.
  • This only targets the spell being changed, not the original or new target of the spell it is affecting.
  • You can choose to make a spell on the stack target this spell (if such a target choice would be legal had the spell been cast while this spell was on the stack). The new target for the deflected spell is not chosen until this spell resolves. This spell is still on the stack when new targets are selected for the spell.
  • You can’t make a spell which is on the stack target itself.
  • You choose the spell to target on announcement, but you pick the new target for that spell on resolution.

  • If a copy of a spell is returned to its owner’s hand, it’s moved there, then it will cease to exist as a state-based action.
  • If a spell is returned to its owner’s hand, it’s removed from the stack and thus will not resolve. The spell isn’t countered; it just no longer exists. This works against a spell that can’t be countered.
  • If the spell has damage divided as it was cast, the division can’t be changed (although the targets receiving that damage still can). The same is true of spells that distribute counters.
  • If the spell that’s copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Finale of Promise does), the copy will have the same value of X.
  • If the spell that’s copied is modal (that is, it says “Choose one —” or the like), the copy will have the same mode. A different mode can’t be chosen.
  • If you copy a spell, you control the copy. Narset’s Reversal and the copy resolve before the original spell would have resolved.
  • Narset’s Reversal can copy any instant or sorcery spell, not just one with targets.
  • The controller of a copy can’t choose to pay any alternative or additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any alternative or additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy.
  • The copy is created on the stack, so it’s not “cast.” Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won’t trigger.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell it’s copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can’t choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).

Counter target spell. If that spell is countered this way, exile it instead of putting it into its owner's graveyard. You may play it without paying its mana cost for as long as it remains exiled. (If it has X in its mana cost, X is 0.)
