"Find me cards equivalent to: Wyll's Reversal"

Equivalent cards to Wyll's Reversal (Instant, Red, Chooses new targets for a spell/ability):
1. Deflecting Swat – Instantly changes the target of a spell or ability.
2. Reverberate – Instantly copies a spell (doesn't retarget but similar).
3. Wild Ricochet – Changes target and copies an instant/sorcery spell.
4. Misdirection – Blue, but similar effect (shifts target).

Reason: Only a few red instants change targets and/or copy spells. Wyll's Reversal, Deflecting Swat, and Wild Ricochet best match the effect in mono-red.

  • If the target spell has a variable number of targets, you can't change how many targets it has.
  • If the target spell has damage divided as it was cast (like Mythos of Vadrok), the division can't be changed although the targets receiving that damage still can. The same is true of spells that distribute counters.
  • If you choose new targets for the target spell, the new targets must be legal.
  • It doesn't matter whose commander you control. Any one will do. If you have two commanders, you just need to control one of them.
  • Once you begin casting this spell, players can't take any other actions until you're done casting it. Notably, they can't try to remove the commander you control to make you pay its cost.

  • If there is no other legal target for the spell, this does not change the target.
  • Once the spell resolves, the new target is considered to be targeted by the deflected spell. This will trigger any effects which trigger on being targeted.
  • The target of a spell that targets another spell on the stack can be changed to any other spell on the stack, even if the new target will resolve before the spell does.
  • This does not check if the current target is legal. It just checks if the spell has a single target.
  • This only targets the spell being changed, not the original or new target of the spell it is affecting.
  • You can choose to make a spell on the stack target this spell (if such a target choice would be legal had the spell been cast while this spell was on the stack). The new target for the deflected spell is not chosen until this spell resolves. This spell is still on the stack when new targets are selected for the spell.
  • You can’t make a spell which is on the stack target itself.
  • You choose the spell to target on announcement, but you pick the new target for that spell on resolution.

  • If the copy says that it affects "you," it affects the controller of the copy, not the controller of the original spell. Similarly, if the copy says that it affects an "opponent," it affects an opponent of the copy's controller, not an opponent of the original spell's controller.
  • If the spell Reverberate copies has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Earthquake does), the copy has the same value of X.
  • If the spell Reverberate copies is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copy will have the same mode. You can't choose a different one.
  • Reverberate can target (and copy) any instant or sorcery spell, not just one with targets. It doesn't matter who controls it.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).
  • When Reverberate resolves, it creates a copy of a spell. You control the copy. That copy is created on the stack, so it's not "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won't trigger. The copy will then resolve like a normal spell, after players get a chance to cast spells and activate abilities.
  • You can't choose to pay any additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy too. For example, if a player sacrifices a 3/3 creature to cast Fling, and you copy it with Reverberate, the copy of Fling will also deal 3 damage to its target.

  • Even though you do not gain control of the original spell or ability, you control the copy. That copy is created on the stack, so it isn't "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won't trigger. The copy will then resolve like a normal spell or ability, after players get a chance to cast spells and activate abilities. The copy will resolve before the original spell or ability.
  • If the spell is a permanent spell with a target (such as an Aura spell), and you create a copy of it, the copy will become a token that you control. Because the spell becomes a token, the token isn't "created." Effects that care about a token being created won't interact with a token that enters the battlefield because Wyll's Reversal copied a permanent spell.
  • If the target spell or ability has an X whose value was determined as it was cast, activated, or put on the stack (like Fireball does), the copy has the same value of X.
  • If the target spell or ability is modal (that is, it has a bulleted list of choices), the copy will have the same mode(s). You can't choose different ones.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell or ability it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).
