  • A card, spell, or permanent is historic if it has the legendary supertype, the artifact card type, or the Saga subtype. Having two of those qualities doesn't make an object more historic than another or provide an additional bonus—an object either is historic or it isn't.
  • An ability that triggers "whenever you cast a historic spell" doesn't trigger if a historic card is put onto the battlefield without being cast.
  • Attacking with a goaded creature doesn't cause it to stop being goaded. If there is an additional combat phase that turn, or if another player gains control of it before it stops being goaded, it must attack again if able.
  • Being goaded isn't an ability the creature has. Once it's been goaded, it must attack as detailed above even if it loses all abilities.
  • If a creature you control has been goaded by multiple opponents, it must attack one of your opponents that hasn't goaded it, as that fulfills the maximum number of goad requirements. If a creature you control has been goaded by each of your opponents, the creature must attack an opponent (rather than a planeswalker or battle), but you choose which opponent it attacks.
  • If the creature doesn't meet any of the above exceptions and can attack, it must attack a player other than the controller of the spell or ability that goaded it if able. If the creature can't attack any of those players but could otherwise attack, it must attack a planeswalker an opponent controls, a battle an opponent protects, or the player that goaded it.
  • If, during a player's declare attackers step, a creature that player controls that's been goaded is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can't attack, or hasn't been under that player's control continuously since the turn began (and doesn't have haste), then it doesn't attack. If there's a cost associated with having a creature attack a player, its controller isn't forced to pay that cost, so it doesn't have to attack that player.
  • Lands are never cast, so abilities that trigger "whenever you cast a historic spell" won't trigger if you play a legendary land. They also won't trigger if a card on the battlefield transforms into a card with the legendary supertype, the artifact card type, or the Saga subtype.
  • Some abilities trigger "whenever you cast a historic spell." Such an ability resolves before the spell that caused it to trigger. It resolves even if that spell is countered.

If that creature is no longer attacking, it refers to the appropriate player based on who or what the creature was last attacking.
  • The tokens created by a single instance of myriad all enter at the same time.
  • You choose whether each token is attacking the player or a planeswalker they control as the token is created. If it’s attacking a planeswalker, you choose which one. You can’t have any of the tokens attack a battle.

  • Great Train Heist’s second mode affects only creatures you control at the time Great Train Heist resolves. Creatures you begin to control later in the turn and noncreature permanents that become creatures later in the turn won’t get +1/+0 or first strike.
  • If a mode requires a target, you can select that mode only if there’s a legal target available. Ignore the targeting requirements for modes you don’t choose.
  • If a spell with spree is copied, the effect that creates the copy may allow you to choose new targets. You cannot choose new modes.
  • If all targets for the chosen modes become illegal before a spell with spree resolves, the spell won’t resolve and none of its effects will happen. If at least one target is still legal, the spell will resolve but will have no effect on any illegal targets.

  • A book is any bound pages of writing, usually with a spine of some sort. Scrolls are not books. They are scrolls. See: Scroll.
  • A bottle is a device intended to hold liquid or small objects. It is usually made of glass. Bottles typically have necks and are designed to pour their contents. The bottle may be empty, but it should clearly be designed to hold something.
  • A fang is a tooth, typically longer than a creature’s other teeth, and typically used to puncture enemies, often to drink their blood. The presence of non-fang teeth is important to establish that what you see are fangs and the creature just doesn’t have very long teeth.
  • A scroll is one or more pages or parchments, usually designed to be rolled up. Scrolls can be open or closed. Books are not scrolls. They are books. See: Book.
  • A spear is the recommended serving size of pickle. It is also a pole with a pointed blade on one end. It is traditionally a weapon. For our purposes, the spear can be thrown (javelins are okay), as long the weapon’s general shape clearly implies spear. It can be sticking out of a body.
  • A sword is a bladed weapon with a handle. If a creature is wearing a scabbard with a sword in it, and all you can see is the handle, that counts.
  • Armor is a covering worn on the body to protect against damage. It is typically metal or leather, although it can be made from anything. It can’t be a natural part of the creature.
  • Blood is a liquid, usually red, that comes from within a creature’s circulatory system. If the blood isn’t with its previous owner—say it’s in a pool on the floor—the previous owner doesn’t need to be in the art. The blood does need to contextually be blood. Red liquid in a goblet might not be blood. Red liquid in a goblet held by a vampire? Blood. Red anything at a wedding for a pair of ancient vampires? Take a wild guess.
  • Fire is combustion or burning, whereby substances combine chemically with oxygen from the air and typically give out bright light, heat, and smoke. Fire is usually red, orange, or yellow, but it can be other colors. Note that being a hot thing doesn’t necessarily make something fire. Magma and lava, for example, are not inherently fire, although they may cause fire.
  • If all players can’t agree on what’s in the art, you may consult an outside person for a final determination.
  • Water is a liquid found in lakes, oceans, pools, wells, rivers, and glasses both half-empty and half-full. The liquid must contextually be water. Rain counts. Note that you must see the water. A well wouldn’t count if you couldn’t see the water inside, for example, even if the water is implied.
