  • Chef's Kiss can target any spell that targets a single permanent or player, including a spell you control.
  • If a spell has multiple instances of the word “target,” but all of them target the same permanent or player, it is a legal target for Chef's Kiss. In that case, a new target will be reselected at random for each instance of the word target in its rules text. The same is true for the copy.
  • If there are any legal targets that are not you or permanents you control, you must reselect the targets at random.
  • If there are no legal targets that could be selected, the targets remain unchanged. Note that this may not mean that those targets are illegal as the spell resolves. For example, if an opponent in a two-player game has hexproof and casts Lava Spike targeting you, Chef's Kiss will not be able to change the target. However, this doesn't make you an illegal target, and both the original spell and the copy will still target you and deal 3 damage to you.
  • Neither copying a spell nor reselecting its targets counts as casting a spell.
  • Note that Chef's Kiss may make some or all of the targets of a spell illegal.   • For spells that can have a variable number of targets, the controller of the copy must use the same number of targets the original spell did.
  • Fork does not let you make non-targeting choices about the spell.
  • Fork will not copy changes made by modifying effects to the spell prior to the use of Fork, such as text-changing effects.
  • Forking a spell with an X in the cost requires you to use the same X value.
  • If mana or other costs need to be spent at resolution of the spell, the player of Fork would still be responsible for paying that cost.
  • If the spell being copied targets a spell on the stack, it is possible to target Fork itself since Fork is still on the stack when you pick the target(s) for the copy. Note that the copy's target will be illegal when it resolves.
  • If you copy a spell for which Buyback has been paid, you get nothing back since the copied spell does not have a card to give you.

  • If you Fork a Spliced spell, the spliced text is added during the announcement of the original spell, and therefore is fully copied by Fork.
  • The copy will have the same mana cost as the original spell, but will be red rather than whatever color that mana cost would have made it.
  • If the targeted spell was kicked, then the copy will be kicked as well. If the targeted spell was not kicked, then the copy will not be kicked.
