"Find me cards equivalent to: Chimeric Mass"

Equivalent cards to Chimeric Mass (artifact, colorless, self-animating by paying mana, scales with counters):
1. Chimeric Mass – original card.
2. Chimeric Egg – similar: enters with counters, animates into construct.
3. Mishra's Factory – not an artifact, but animates itself similarly.
4. Mishra's Self-Replicator – artifact creature, creates tokens but does not animate itself.
5. Chimeric Staff – artifact, animates and scales with charge counters.

Reason: Colorless artifacts that animate themselves and scale with counters are rare; Chimeric Staff is the closest analog with similar play pattern as Chimeric Mass.

  • Activating the last ability while Chimeric Mass is a creature will override any effects that set its power and/or toughness to another number, but effects that modify power and/or toughness without directly setting them will still apply.
  • For example, say you activate the last ability of a Chimeric Mass with three charge counters on it. After it resolves, you cast Giant Growth targeting it. It’s now 6/6. Then Diminish (“Target creature becomes 1/1 until end of turn”) is cast targeting it. Once Diminish resolves, Chimeric Mass would be 4/4. Activating Chimeric Mass’s last ability a second time would make it 6/6 again until end of turn.
  • If the number of charge counters on Chimeric Mass changes while it is a creature, its power and toughness will change accordingly.
  • If you activate Chimeric Mass’s last ability while it has no charge counters on it, it will become a 0/0 creature and be put into its owner’s graveyard as a state-based action.

  • If Chimeric Staff is already an artifact creature when you activate its ability, Chimeric Staff stays an artifact creature but the ability resets its creature types. You always apply the effect from this card before counters or other effects that modify power and toughness. For example, if you pay {3} to make it a 3/3, then someone gives it -1/-1, it will be a 2/2. If you then activate the ability with {4}, you will apply the "4/4" effect before the -1/-1 effect, so the end result will be a 3/3. Damage that was dealt to the creature stays on it.

  • A noncreature permanent that becomes a creature can attack, and its {T} abilities can be activated, only if its controller has continuously controlled that permanent since the beginning of their most recent turn. It doesn't matter how long the permanent has been a creature. Notably, if you turn Mishra's Factory into a creature on the turn it entered the battlefield, you won't be able to then activate its first or last abilities.
  • After it becomes a creature, Mishra's Factory will still have all its abilities.

    Rules

  • A card, spell, or permanent is historic if it has the legendary supertype, the artifact card type, or the Saga subtype. Having two of those qualities doesn’t make an object more historic than another or provide an additional bonus—an object either is historic or it isn’t.
  • An ability that triggers “whenever you cast a historic spell” doesn’t trigger if a historic card is put onto the battlefield without being cast.
  • If Mishra’s Self-Replicator leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the token will still enter the battlefield as a copy of Mishra’s Self-Replicator, using Mishra’s Self-Replicator’s copiable values from when it was last on the battlefield.
  • Lands are never cast, so abilities that trigger “whenever you cast a historic spell” won’t trigger if you play a legendary land. They also won’t trigger if a card on the battlefield transforms into a legendary land, as the Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan double-faced cards do.
  • Some abilities trigger “whenever you cast a historic spell.” Such an ability resolves before the spell that caused it to trigger. It resolves even if that spell is countered.
  • The token will have Mishra’s Self-Replicator’s ability. It will also be able to create copies of itself.
  • The token won’t copy counters or damage marked on Mishra’s Self-Replicator, nor will it copy other effects that have changed Mishra’s Self-Replicator’s power, toughness, types, color, and so on. Normally, this means the token will simply be a Mishra’s Self-Replicator, but if any copy effects have affected that Mishra’s Self-Replicator, they’re taken into account.
  • While resolving the triggered ability of Mishra’s Self-Replicator, you can’t pay {1} multiple times to create more than one token. However, if you control more than one Mishra’s Self-Replicator, you can pay {1} for each of their abilities.
