"Find me cards equivalent to: Confusion in the Ranks"

Confusion in the Ranks is a unique red enchantment with a chaotic exchange effect. Closest equivalents in red that are enchantments and involve exchanging or stealing are:

  • Grip of Chaos — Randomizes target choices, creates chaos when spells or abilities target.
  • Kaervek's Spite (not an enchantment, but similar chaotic swap mechanics).
  • Role Reversal (blue-red, not mono-red, but exchanges control).
  • Switcheroo (blue, exchanges creatures).

None are direct matches, but Confusion in the Ranks remains the only mono-red enchantment with this specific exchange mechanic involving multiple permanent types. Closest in spirit is Grip of Chaos for randomness.

  • The exchange isn't optional. If there is a legal choice, you must make one.
  • Confusion in the Ranks triggers on itself entering. If an opponent controls an enchantment, exchange Confusion in the Ranks for that enchantment.
  • Even though Confusion in the Ranks triggers only when an artifact, creature, or enchantment enters, the ability can target a land if the permanent entering is an artifact land.
  • The permanents are exchanged only if they're both on the battlefield when the ability resolves.
  • The permanents have to share a permanent type both when the target is chosen and when the ability resolves.

  • If there are multiple legal targets, it may still choose the original one.
  • If there are no other legal targets, it keeps its target.
  • The ability triggers when a spell or ability is put on the stack, and this target-changing ability itself goes on the stack. This means that the spell or ability keeps its original target until this ability resolves. You determine the new target when this ability resolves, at which time the set of legal targets may have changed.

  • Gaining control of a permanent doesn’t cause you to gain control of any Auras or Equipment attached to it.
  • If one of the target permanents is an illegal target when Role Reversal resolves, the exchange won’t happen.
  • If the same player controls both permanents when Role Reversal resolves, nothing happens.
  • Role Reversal’s effect lasts indefinitely. It doesn’t wear off during the cleanup step, and it doesn’t expire if the permanents stop sharing a permanent type after Role Reversal has resolved.
  • The permanent types are artifact, creature, enchantment, land, and planeswalker. Supertypes, like legendary, aren’t permanent types. For example, you can’t exchange control of a legendary creature with a legendary planeswalker.
  • You don’t have to control either target permanent.
