"Find me cards equivalent to: Illusory Ambusher"

Equivalent cards to Illusory Ambusher (blue creatures with flash and/or triggered draw effects when damaged) include:

  • Stunt Double (U, Creature with flash, but copies another creature—no draw effect)
  • Aetherling (U, Creature, avoids damage and exile tricks—no draw effect)
  • Protean Raider (U, not a Cat nor Illusion, but similar flash/copy mechanic)
  • Drawn from Dreams effect is not present on many Cat Illusion creature-types

Closest true equivalent remains Illusory Ambusher itself; blue doesn't have many creatures that combine flash and drawing cards specifically for being dealt damage. The effect is unique.

  • Aetherling's first ability will return it to the battlefield only if that ability also exiled it. If Aetherling left the battlefield in response to that ability, it won't return, even if it was exiled by another spell or ability.
  • Aetherling's last ability can be activated even if its power is 0 or less. If a creature would assign 0 or less damage in combat, it doesn't assign combat damage at all.

  • If Illusory Ambusher blocks a creature with trample, that creature's controller can assign any amount of damage from 1 to that creature's power to Illusory Ambusher. Excess damage doesn't have to be assigned to the defending player.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Protean Raider enters the battlefield. Any "as [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[this creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the chosen creature will also work.
  • If Protean Raider somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another creature, Protean Raider can't become a copy of that creature. You may choose only a creature that's already on the battlefield.
  • If the chosen creature has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
  • If the chosen creature is a token, Protean Raider copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created the token. Protean Raider is not a token in this case.
  • If the chosen creature is copying something else (for example, if the chosen creature is another Protean Raider), then Protean Raider enters the battlefield as whatever the chosen creature copied.
  • Protean Raider copies exactly what was printed on the original creature (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.
  • Raid abilities care only that you attacked with a creature. It doesn't matter how many creatures you attacked with or which player, planeswalker, or battle those creatures attacked.
  • Raid abilities evaluate the entire turn to see if you attacked with a creature. That creature doesn't have to still be on the battlefield. Similarly, the player, planeswalker, or battle it attacked doesn't have to still be in the game or on the battlefield.

It doesn’t copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or any Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.
  • You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Stunt Double enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature, and is put into the graveyard immediately (unless something else is raising its toughness).
