6 Cards Found

AI 🤖 Find me cards equivalent to: Portal Mage

Equivalent cards (blue, creature, interacts with attackers/blockers):
1. Aetherize – Returns all attacking creatures to owners' hands (stops attacks).
2. Illusionist's Gambit – Removes attackers from combat and makes opponents attack other players.
3. Labyrinth Guardian – When targeted, becomes exiled (not as direct, but interacts defensively).
4. Lost in a Labyrinth – Alters power/toughness and Scry (defensive trick).

Reason:
These blue cards can manipulate combat similarly to Portal Mage by redirecting, bouncing, or deterring attacks. None are exact copies, but all fit blue's theme of combat manipulation.

  • An "attacking creature" is one that has been declared as an attacker this combat, or one that was put onto the battlefield attacking this combat. Unless that creature leaves combat, it continues to be an attacking creature through the end of combat step, even if the player it was attacking has left the game, or the planeswalker it was attacking has left combat. There's no such thing as an attacking creature outside of the combat phase.

  • Creatures that didn't attack during the combat phase when Illusionist's Gambit resolved aren't required to attack in the additional combat phase, although they may. Those creatures can attack you or a planeswalker you control.
  • If there's a cost associated with having a creature attack, the player isn't forced to pay that cost, so it doesn't have to attack.
  • If, during a player's declare attackers step, a creature is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can't attack, or hasn't been under that player's control continuously since the turn began (and doesn't have haste), then it doesn't attack.

Cast this spell only during the declare blockers step on an opponent's turn. Remove all attacking creatures from combat and untap them. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase. Each of those creatures attacks that combat if able. They can't attack you or planeswalkers you control that combat.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Embalm

    Rules

  • Aura spells you cast target the permanent they will enchant.
  • For each card with embalm, a corresponding game play supplement token can be found in some Amonkhet booster packs. These supplements are not required to play with cards with embalm; you can use the same items to represent an embalmed token as you would any other token.
  • The token copies exactly what was printed on the original card and nothing else. It doesn't copy any information about the object the card was before it was put into your graveyard.
  • The token is a Zombie in addition to its other types and is white instead of its other colors. It has no mana cost, and thus its mana value is 0. These are copiable values of the token that other effects may copy.
  • You'll sacrifice Labyrinth Guardian even if you counter the spell that targets it. If that spell has no other targets, it'll be countered when it tries to resolve.
  • If a spell or ability puts a creature card with embalm into your graveyard during your main phase, you'll have priority immediately after that spell or ability resolves. You can activate the creature card's embalm ability before any player can exile it with an effect, such as that of Crook of Condemnation, if it's legal for you to do so.
  • Once you've activated an embalm ability, the card is immediately exiled. Opponents can't try to stop the ability by exiling the card with an effect such as that of Crook of Condemnation.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Scry

    Rules

  • Scry appears on some spells and abilities with one or more targets. If all of the spell or ability's targets are illegal when it tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won't scry.
  • When you scry, you may put all the cards you look at back on top of your library, you may put all of those cards on the bottom of your library, or you may put some of those cards on top and the rest of them on the bottom.
  • You choose how to order cards returned to your library after scrying no matter where you put them.
  • You perform the actions stated on a card in sequence. For some spells and abilities, that means you'll scry last. For others, that means you'll scry and then perform other actions.

    Flash

    Rules

  • If an ability targets something controlled by the “defending player” of an attacking creature and the defending player for that creature changes before that ability resolves, the ability won’t resolve because its target has become illegal.
  • If you reselect which player or planeswalker an attacking creature is attacking, that creature is still considered to have attacked the player or planeswalker as declared, but it is now attacking the new player or planeswalker.
  • Reselecting which player or planeswalker a creature is attacking doesn’t cause “whenever this creature attacks” abilities to trigger. Notably, the Curses in this set (such as Curse of Vitality) won’t trigger while Portal Mage’s ability is resolving.
  • Reselecting which player or planeswalker a creature is attacking ignores all requirements, restrictions, and costs associated with attacking.
  • You may cast Portal Mage outside of a declare attackers step. If Portal Mage enters the battlefield outside of a declare attackers step, its ability simply doesn’t trigger.
