  • If more than one Dance of the Dead ends up on a creature, each contributes a +1/+1. But you only have to pay the untap cost once. You may pay for each one, however, and untap the card more than once during upkeep.
  • If the creature card put onto the battlefield has protection from black (or anything that prevents this from legally being attached), this won't be able to attach to it. Then this will go to the graveyard as a state-based action, causing the creature to be sacrificed.
  • Once the creature is returned to the battlefield, Dance of the Dead can't be attached to anything other than it (unless Dance of the Dead somehow manages to put a different creature onto the battlefield). Attempting to move Dance of the Dead to another creature won't work.
  • This is a new wording. Dance of the Dead is now an Aura. You target a creature card in a graveyard when you cast it. It enters attached to that card. Then it returns that card to the battlefield, and attaches itself to that card again (since the card is treated as a new object on the battlefield).

  • If Shifting Shadow can't become attached to the creature you put onto the battlefield, most likely because that creature has protection from red, it becomes attached to nothing. It will be put into its owner's graveyard as a state-based action.
  • If the Shifting Shadow leaves the battlefield after the triggered ability it grants has triggered but before it resolves, you'll destroy the creature it enchanted before it left the battlefield, then reveal cards and put a creature card onto the battlefield. Shifting Shadow won't become attached to it. The same is true if the enchanted creature leaves the battlefield rather than just Shifting Shadow, except that you won't destroy the creature it enchanted in that case.
  • If the enchanted creature can't be destroyed, most likely because that creature has indestructible, you'll still get a new creature and attach Shifting Shadow to the new creature.
  • If you don't reveal a creature card this way, you'll just reveal and randomize your library and Shifting Shadow becomes attached to nothing. It will be put into its owner's graveyard as a state-based action.

  • At the beginning of the next end step, the creature returned to the battlefield with Whip of Erebos is exiled. This is a delayed triggered ability. If the ability is countered, the creature will stay on the battlefield and the delayed trigger won't trigger again. However, the replacement effect will still exile the creature when it eventually leaves the battlefield.
  • If a creature returned to the battlefield with Whip of Erebos would leave the battlefield for any reason, it's exiled instead. However, if that creature is already being exiled, then the replacement effect won't apply. If the spell or ability that exiles it later returns it to the battlefield (as Chained to the Rocks might, for example), the creature card will return to the battlefield as a new object with no relation to its previous existence. The effects from Whip of Erebos will no longer apply to it.
  • The exiled creature is never put into the graveyard. Any abilities the creature has that trigger when it dies won't trigger.
  • Whip of Erebos grants haste to the creature that's returned to the battlefield. However, neither of the "exile" abilities is granted to that creature.
