"Find me cards equivalent to: Sly Instigator"

Equivalent cards to Sly Instigator (blue, creature, with goad or unblockable-ish effects):
1. Sly Instigator (reference card)
2. Willbreaker — Controls creatures after targeting them, blue, Human Wizard.
3. Stitcher Geralf — Forces opponents' creatures to fight, blue, Human Wizard.
4. Domineering Will — Not a creature, but also lets you control opponent creatures for a turn.
5. Daring Thief — Exchanges control of permanents, blue, Human Rogue.

Direct functional equivalents with the same goad ability in mono-blue are rare, but these are the closest blue creatures that manipulate or incite opponents' creatures. Sly Instigator is currently unique for this combination in mono-blue.

    Rules

  • Although the permanent you control can't be a land, the other target can, provided it shares a card type with the first target. For example, you could target an artifact you control and an artifact land controlled by an opponent.
  • Gaining control of an Aura or Equipment doesn't cause it to move, though gaining control of an Equipment will allow you to activate its equip ability to attach it to a creature you control later.
  • If an inspired ability triggers during your untap step, the ability will be put on the stack at the beginning of your upkeep. If the ability creates one or more token creatures, those creatures won't be able to attack that turn (unless they gain haste).
  • If another spell or ability allows you to change the targets of the ability (or perhaps copy it and choose new targets for the copy), you can change the targets only such that the final set of targets is still legal. For example, if the ability targets a creature you control and a creature an opponent controls, you couldn't change just the second target to a noncreature permanent controlled by that player. You could, however, change just the second target to a creature controlled by a different opponent. The two new targets can share a different card type than the two original targets did.
  • If the full exchange can't happen, perhaps because one of the targets is illegal as the inspired ability tries to resolve, then nothing happens. No permanents change controllers.
  • If the inspired ability includes an optional cost, you decide whether to pay that cost as the ability resolves. You can do this even if the creature leaves the battlefield in response to the ability.
  • Inspired abilities don't trigger when the creature enters the battlefield.
  • Inspired abilities trigger no matter how the creature becomes untapped: by the turn-based action at the beginning of the untap step or by a spell or ability.
  • The exchange of control lasts indefinitely. It doesn't expire when Daring Thief leaves the battlefield.
  • The relevant card types (that is, the ones a nonland permanent can have) are artifact, battle, creature, enchantment, kindred, and planeswalker.

Inspired — Whenever this creature becomes untapped, you may exchange control of target nonland permanent you control and target permanent an opponent controls that shares a card type with it.

  • Each of those creatures blocks only if it's able to do so as the declare blockers step begins. If, at that time, one of the creatures is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can't block, or no creatures are attacking that creature's controller or a planeswalker controlled by that player, then it doesn't block. If there's a cost associated with having the creature block, the player isn't forced to pay that cost, so it doesn't block in that case either.
  • Notably, Domineering Will doesn't give any of the target creatures haste. Unless they have haste due to some other means, they won't be able to attack that turn.
  • The controller of the creatures still chooses which attacking creature each of the three target creatures blocks.

    Goad

    Rules

  • If you leave the game, any creatures you've goaded remain goaded until your next turn would have begun. They don't immediately stop being goaded and don't remain goaded indefinitely.
  • Once a creature an opponent controls has been legally blocked, activating Sly Instigator's ability won't change or undo that block.
  • Attacking with a goaded creature doesn't cause it to stop being goaded. If there is an additional combat phase that turn, or if another player gains control of it before it stops being goaded, it must attack again if able.
  • Being goaded isn't an ability the creature has. Once it's been goaded, it must attack as detailed above even if it loses all abilities.
  • If a creature you control has been goaded by multiple opponents, it must attack one of your opponents that hasn't goaded it, as that fulfills the maximum number of goad requirements. If a creature you control has been goaded by each of your opponents, the creature must attack an opponent (rather than a planeswalker or battle), but you choose which opponent it attacks.
  • If the creature doesn't meet any of the above exceptions and can attack, it must attack a player other than the controller of the spell or ability that goaded it if able. If the creature can't attack any of those players but could otherwise attack, it must attack a planeswalker an opponent controls, a battle an opponent controls, or a player who goaded it.
  • If, during a player's declare attackers step, a creature that player controls that's been goaded is tapped, is affected by a spell or ability that says it can't attack, or hasn't been under that player's control continuously since the turn began (and doesn't have haste), then it doesn't attack. If there's a cost associated with having a creature attack a player, its controller isn't forced to pay that cost, so it doesn't have to attack that player.

  • “Exiled this way” refers to the exile instruction that's part of the ability's effect. If the cards each player would put into their graveyard are exiled because of a replacement effect, those cards won't be in the graveyards to be exiled by the next part of the ability. In this case, the value of X will be 0. You'll put a 0/0 token onto the battlefield, then that token will die and subsequently cease to exist (unless something else raises its toughness above 0).
