AI 🤖 Find me cards equivalent to: The Grand Calcutron

Equivalent cards to The Grand Calcutron (blue/white, unique mechanic: Contraptions, program layout) are rare, but here are some with similar effects (hand/exile mechanics, blue/white):

  • Knowledge Pool (blue, manipulates hand/play order)
  • Shared Fate (blue, changes draw/play from opponent’s deck)
  • Mind's Desire (blue, modular spell-casting)
  • Future Sight (blue, play with top of deck revealed)
  • Telepathy (blue, reveal hand to all players)

Reason: All interact with hand/order of play, similar to The Grand Calcutron’s hand-rigging. No white equivalents with identical effect.

    Rules

  • If the top card of your library changes while you're casting a spell, playing a land, or activating an ability (most likely because that top card is the card you're playing), the new top card won't be revealed until you finish doing so.
  • If the top card of your library is a land, you may play that land only if you have any available land plays.
  • The top card of your library isn't in your hand, so you can't suspend it, cycle it, or activate any of its abilities.
  • You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions for the top card of your library and pay its costs. If the card has alternative or additional costs, you may pay those. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, you must pay those.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • Any other abilities that trigger when you cast the original spell (for example, if you cast Emrakul, the Aeons Torn) will still trigger and go on the stack.
  • If multiple Knowledge Pools are on the battlefield, keep track of which cards are exiled by each of them. Whenever a player casts a spell from their hand: -- If all Knowledge Pools are controlled by the same player, that player chooses the order in which the triggered abilities are put onto the stack. The last one put onto the stack will be the first to resolve. -- If multiple players each control one or more Knowledge Pools, the active player put their triggered abilities on the stack in any order, then each other player in turn order does the same. The last ability put onto the stack this way will be the first to resolve. -- The first triggered ability to resolve will exile the original spell, then the player who cast that spell may cast one of the nonland cards exiled by the Knowledge Pool that generated that triggered ability. The abilities of other Knowledge Pools will do nothing when they resolve, as the original spell will already have been exiled.
  • If the card has any mandatory additional costs, as Kuldotha Rebirth does, you must pay them in order to cast the spell.
  • If the card you cast without paying its mana cost has an X in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as its value.
  • If the original spell isn't exiled (perhaps because it's countered by another spell or ability before Knowledge Pool's second triggered ability resolves), the rest of the ability does nothing. The player doesn't get to cast an exiled card.
  • If there are no nonland cards exiled by Knowledge Pool, the original spell is still exiled.
  • The spell a player casts from their hand won't resolve if it's exiled, even if that spell can't be countered by spells or abilities.
  • Timing restrictions based on the card's type are ignored. For example, you can cast an exiled creature card this way. Other restrictions, such as Spinal Embrace's "Cast Spinal Embrace only during combat" are not ignored.
  • You may cast any other card exiled by Knowledge Pool, including one owned by an opponent. Any card exiled by Knowledge Pool's "enters" ability or its other triggered ability may be cast.
  • You may pay additional costs, such as kicker costs, of the exiled card.

    Storm

    Rules

  • If the card is not played by end of turn, it remains exiled until end of game.
  • The card is face-up when exiled.
  • A copy of a spell can be countered like any other spell, but it must be countered individually. Countering a spell with storm won't affect the copies.
  • Spells cast from zones other than a player's hand and spells that were countered are counted by the storm ability.
  • The copies are put directly onto the stack. They aren't cast and won't be counted by other spells with storm cast later in the turn.
  • The triggered ability that creates the copies can itself be countered by anything that can counter a triggered ability. If it is countered, no copies will be put onto the stack.

    Rules

  • If more than one Shared Fate is on the battlefield, you choose which one replaces each card draw, but you can replace a draw only once.
  • Replacing your draws isn't optional. You can't draw cards from your own library, even if all your opponents' libraries are empty.
  • The cards are exiled, not put onto the players' hands. Players can look at and play the exiled cards, but can't do anything else with them (the exiled cards can't be discarded or cycled, for example).
  • You need to pay the costs of any cards you play from the Exile zone. This could be a problem if you don't have the right colors of mana available.
  • Each Shared Fate tracks only the cards it exiled. If the Shared Fate which was responsible for a card being exiled leaves the battlefield, putting another Shared Fate onto the battlefield will not allow you to play that card again.

    Rules

  • After The Grand Calcutron leaves the battlefield, players pick their cards up and put them back in their hand. They are no longer public and no longer follow the rules of The Grand Calcutron.
  • In Commander games allowing silver-bordered cards, The Grand Calcutron can be your commander.
  • When The Grand Calcutron enters the battlefield, all players take their hands and place them face up on the table. They then order them as they choose into a row, called a "program." The only card they may cast is the first card in their program.
  • Whenever a card would go to a player's hand (they drew it, it got bounced, etc.) that player can put the card anywhere in their program they wish. At the beginning of each end step, if you have fewer than five cards in your program, you draw cards until you have five.
  • Your program is still your hand. If you discard a card, it goes from your program to your graveayard.

When The Grand Calcutron enters, each player's hand becomes a program (an ordered row of revealed cards). Players can play only the first card of their program. If a card would be put into a player's hand from anywhere, that player reveals it and places it anywhere within their program instead. At the beginning of each player's end step, if that player's program has fewer than five cards, they draw cards equal to the difference. The Grand Calcutron can be your commander.
