  • Auras attached to the exiled permanent will be put into their owners' graveyards. Any Equipment will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled permanent will cease to exist.
  • Hostage Taker has received errata to prevent it from targeting itself. The correct Oracle wording appears above.
  • If Hostage Taker leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the target permanent won't be exiled.
  • If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won't return to the battlefield. You can't cast it.
  • If it's still in exile, the exiled card returns to the battlefield immediately after Hostage Taker leaves the battlefield. Nothing happens between the two events, including state-based actions.
  • In a multiplayer game, if Hostage Taker's owner leaves the game while the card is still exiled and another player owns that card, the exiled card will return to the battlefield under its owner's control.   • Any effects (such as proliferate) that interact with counters a player gets, has, or loses can interact with rad counters.
  • Effects that modify a creature's power and/or toughness will still apply to the creature as normal. The same is true for any counters that change its power and/or toughness.
  • If a player has fewer cards remaining in their library than the number of rad counters they have when the triggered ability resolves, they'll mill as many cards as they can.
  • If a player is instructed to put a card into their graveyard from their library without using the word "mill," (by the effect of Rowan's Grim Search from Wilds of Eldraine®, for example), that card isn't a legal target for The Master's last ability.

  • Rad counters are a kind of counter that a player may have. They're not associated with any specific permanents.
  • Rad counters don't go away as steps, phases, or turns end. They only go away when an effect instructs a player to remove rad counters from themselves.
  • The Master's last ability will override any characteristic-defining abilities the creature has that set its power and/or toughness. For example, if you put a Robobrain War Mind onto the battlefield with The Master's last ability, its base power and toughness will be 3/3, and the number of cards in your hand won't affect its power at all.
  • The cards are milled all at once, which means abilities that trigger "whenever one or more nonland cards are milled" will trigger exactly once as long as at least one nonland card was milled.
  • There is an inherent triggered ability associated with having rad counters. This triggered ability has no source and is controlled by the active player. The full text of this ability is "At the beginning of the precombat main phase of a player with rad counters, that player mills cards equal to the number of rad counters they have. For each nonland card milled this way, that player loses 1 life and removes one rad counter from themselves."

  • If a permanent entering the battlefield at the same time as Yarok (including Yarok itself) causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.
  • If a triggered ability is linked to a second ability, additional instances of that triggered ability are also linked to that second ability. If the second ability refers to “the exiled card,” it refers to all cards exiled by instances of the triggered ability.
  • If you somehow control two Yaroks, a permanent entering the battlefield causes abilities to trigger three times, not four. A third Yarok causes abilities to trigger four times, a fourth causes abilities to trigger five times, and so on.
  • In some cases involving linked abilities, an ability requires information about “the exiled card.” When this happens, the ability gets multiple answers. If these answers are being used to determine the value of a variable, the sum is used. For example, if Elite Arcanist's enters-the-battlefield ability triggers twice, two cards are exiled. The value of X in the activation cost of Elite Arcanist's other ability is the sum of the two cards' mana values. As the ability resolves, you create copies of both cards and can cast none, one, or both of the copies in any order.
  • Replacement effects are unaffected by Yarok's ability. For example, a creature that enters the battlefield with one +1/+1 counter on it won't receive an additional +1/+1 counter.
  • Yarok affects a permanent's own enters-the-battlefield triggered abilities as well as other triggered abilities that trigger when that permanent enters the battlefield. Such triggered abilities start with “when” or “whenever.”
  • Yarok's effect doesn't copy the triggered ability; it just causes the ability to trigger twice. Any choices made as you put the ability onto the stack, such as modes and targets, are made separately for each instance of the ability. Any choices made on resolution, such as whether to put counters on a permanent, are also made individually.
  • You don't need to control the permanent entering the battlefield, only the permanent that has the triggered ability.
