  • Any restrictions on the unspent mana aren't copied. For example, if you have {C}{W}{W}{B} with no restrictions on it and {U}{U}{U} that can be used only to cast artifact spells, you'll end up with {C}{C}{W}{W}{W}{W}{B}{B}, {U}{U}{U} that can be used only to cast artifact spells, and {U}{U}{U} that can be used for anything.
  • Doubling Cube's ability is a mana ability.
  • The "type" of mana is its color, or lack thereof (if the mana is colorless).

    Menace

    Rules

  • If there's an {X} in the mana cost of the card you discard, that X is 0. Any {X} in the mana cost of the target spell will have whatever value was determined for it as the spell was cast.
  • Kozilek's triggered ability checks to see if you have fewer than seven cards in hand when you cast it. Kozilek is on the stack at this time and not in your hand. If you don't, the ability won't trigger at all. If the ability does trigger, it will check again as it tries to resolve. If you have seven or more cards in hand at that time, the ability won't do anything.
  • The mana value of a spell doesn't change, even if it's been cast using an alternative cost (such as an awaken cost). For example, the mana value of a Sheer Drop (a spell with mana cost {2}{W}) that's been cast for its awaken cost of {5}{W} is 3.
  • To activate the last ability, there must be a legal target: a spell on the stack. That target will determine the value of X and the mana value of the card you discard. You can't activate the ability unless you can match the mana value of a spell on the stack to that of a card in your hand.

    Rules

  • Activated abilities contain a colon. They're generally written “[Cost]: [Effect].” Some keyword abilities (such as equip) are activated abilities and will have a colon in their reminder text.
  • Any choices made when the spell or ability resolves won't have been made yet when it's copied. Any such choices will be made separately when the copy resolves. Most notably, if a triggered ability asks you to pay a cost (such as that of Leyline Tyrant), you pay that cost for the copy if you wish to have it paid.
  • If a permanent spell is copied, it's put onto the battlefield as a token as the spell resolves rather than putting the copy of the spell onto the battlefield. The rules that apply to a permanent spell becoming a permanent apply to a copy of a spell becoming a token.
  • If an ability is linked to a second ability, copies of that first ability are also linked to that second ability. If the second ability refers to “the exiled card,” it refers to all cards exiled by the first ability and the copy. For example, if Fiend Hunter's enters-the-battlefield ability is copied and two creatures are exiled, they both return when Fiend Hunter leaves the battlefield.
  • If the spell or ability has damage divided as it was put onto the stack, the division can't be changed, although the targets receiving that damage still can. The same is true of spells and abilities that distribute counters.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast or activated, the copy will have the same value of X.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied is modal (that is, it says “Choose one —” or the like), the copy will have the same mode. A different mode can't be chosen. This doesn't apply to copying a permanent spell with a modal enters-the-battlefield triggered ability, but it does apply to copying that ability.
  • Lithoform Engine can copy any spell or ability on the stack, not just one with targets. If a permanent spell is copied, new targets can't be chosen for it, if it has any (perhaps because it's an Aura or a mutating creature spell).
  • Lithoform Engine's first ability targets an activated or triggered ability that is on the stack and creates another instance of that ability on the stack. It doesn't cause any object to gain an ability.
  • The copy is created on the stack, so it's not “cast” or “activated.” Creating the copy won't cause abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell or activates an ability to trigger. Abilities that say that a triggered ability triggers additional times won't apply to copying a triggered ability.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell or ability it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).
  • The copy will resolve before the original spell or ability does.
  • The source of the copy from Lithoform Engine's first ability is the same as the source of the original ability.
  • The token that a resolving copy of a spell becomes isn't said to have been “created.”
  • Triggered abilities use the word “when,” “whenever,” or “at.” They're often written as “[Trigger condition], [effect].” Some keywords (such as prowess) are triggered abilities and will use “when,” “whenever,” or “at” in their reminder text.
  • You can't choose to pay any alternative or additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any alternative or additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy. Most notably, if the original spell was kicked, the copy is kicked.

    Rules

  • Everything about the original spell is copied, including any decisions made on announcement, such as whether it was kicked or its Buyback cost was paid. Effects on the spell, such as Sleight of Mind or Flashback, are not copied.
  • If the copied spell requires a target and there are no legal targets, then the copy has the same target (which should be illegal) as the original.
  • If the spell is countered before the triggered ability resolves, then the ability will make a copy of how the spell looked right before it was countered.
  • It triggers once per spell, so you can’t get multiple copies of a spell using this card. And since this card is legendary, you can’t control more than one.
  • The copy is not “cast” so it will not trigger anything that triggers on a spell being cast.
  • You are not required to choose new targets. If you do choose, then the targets must be legal. If you don’t change them, the spell is placed on the stack whether or not the targets are legal. The legality of the targets is always checked on resolution of the spell, so the spell may be countered at that time if all of its targets are illegal.
  • You choose whether or not to pay when the triggered ability resolves.

    Devoid

    Rules

  • A card with devoid is just colorless. It's not colorless and the colors of mana in its mana cost.
  • Devoid doesn't affect the color identity of the card for the purposes of the Commander variant. For example, while Abstruse Appropriation is colorless because it has devoid, its color identity is still white and black, and it can't be included in a Commander deck where the commander's color identity doesn't include both white and black.
  • Devoid works in all zones, not just on the battlefield.
  • Each copy will have the same targets as the spell or ability it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If the spell is a permanent spell with targets, such as an Aura, you may also choose a new target for that spell. The new targets must be legal. If, for any target, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).
  • If a card loses devoid, it will still be colorless. This is because effects that change an object's color (like the one created by devoid) are considered before the object loses devoid.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast or activated, the copy will have the same value of X.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied has damage divided as it was cast or activated, the division can't be changed (although the targets receiving that damage still can). The same is true of spells and abilities that distribute counters.
  • If the spell or ability that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copy will have the same mode or modes. You can't choose different ones.
  • Other cards and abilities can give a card with devoid a color. If that happens, it's just the new color, not that color and colorless.
  • Resolving copies of permanent spells become tokens as they enter the battlefield. These tokens are not considered "created" when this happens.
  • The controller of a copy can't choose to pay any alternative or additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any alternative or additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy.
  • The copies are created on the stack, so they're not "cast" or "activated." Creating the copies won't cause abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell or activates an ability to trigger. Abilities of copied spells that say "When you cast [this spell]" won't trigger.
  • Ulalek must be on the battlefield in order for its triggered ability to trigger. Casting Ulalek itself won't cause that ability to trigger.
