  • If Moldgraf Monstrosity's ability can't exile it (perhaps because it's not still in the graveyard when the ability resolves), the two creature cards are still returned to the battlefield.
  • If two Moldgraf Monstrosities die simultaneously, the first ability to resolve could return the other Moldgraf Monstrosity to the battlefield. If it does, the second Moldgraf Monstrosity's ability won't exile it but it will return two more creature cards to the battlefield.

    Escape Fight

    Rules

  • After an escaped spell resolves, it returns to its owner's graveyard if it's not a permanent spell. If it is a permanent spell, it enters the battlefield and will return to its owner's graveyard if it dies later. Perhaps it will escape again—good underworld security is so hard to come by these days.
  • Escape's permission doesn't change when you may cast the spell from your graveyard.
  • If a card has multiple abilities giving you permission to cast it, such as two escape abilities or an escape ability and a flashback ability, you choose which one to apply. The others have no effect.
  • If a card with escape is put into your graveyard during your turn, you'll be able to cast it right away if it's legal to do so, before an opponent can take any actions.
  • If an amount of damage would be dealt to Polukranos greater than the number of +1/+1 counters on it, all of that damage is prevented, and all of those counters are removed. In most cases, this will result in Polukranos having 0 toughness, so it will be put into its owner's graveyard.
  • If damage that can't be prevented is dealt to Polukranos, the damage is dealt and you'll simultaneously remove that many +1/+1 counters from it, all before the game checks for lethal damage.
  • If the target creature is an illegal target when Polukranos's activated ability tries to resolve, the ability doesn't resolve. If Polukranos is no longer on the battlefield, the target creature won't deal or be dealt damage.
  • If you cast a spell with its escape permission, you can't choose to apply any other alternative costs or to cast it without paying its mana cost. If it has any additional costs, you must pay those.
  • Once you begin casting a spell with escape, it immediately moves to the stack. Players can't take any other actions until you're done casting the spell.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying (such as an escape cost), add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was and no matter whether an alternative cost was paid.

    Rules

  • Sproutback Trudge’s ability counts the total amount of life gained without considering any life you lost during that turn. For example, if you lost 3 life and gained 4 life earlier in the turn, Sproutback Trudge will cost {3}{G}{G}.
  • The cost reduction can reduce only generic mana in a spell’s total cost. It can’t reduce the cost to cast Sproutback Trudge beyond {G}{G}.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you’re paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions (such as that of Sproutback Trudge’s first ability). Sproutback Trudge’s mana value is always 9, no matter what the total cost to cast the spell was.
  • You need to gain life before the end step begins for the last ability to trigger.
  • You still need to pay the cost to cast Sproutback Trudge from your graveyard.

    Evoke

    Rules

  • Effects that cause you to pay more or less to cast a spell will cause you to pay that much more or less while casting it for its evoke cost, too. That's because they affect the total cost of the spell, not its mana cost.
  • Evoke doesn't change the timing of when you can cast the creature that has it. If you could cast that creature spell only when you could cast a sorcery, the same is true for cast it with evoke.
  • If a creature spell cast with evoke changes controllers before it enters, it will still be sacrificed when it enters. Similarly, if a creature cast with evoke changes controllers after it enters but before its sacrifice ability resolves, it will still be sacrificed. In both cases, the controller of the creature at the time it left the battlefield will control its leaves-the-battlefield ability.
  • If you're casting a spell "without paying its mana cost," you can't use its evoke ability.
  • When you cast a spell by paying its evoke cost, its mana cost doesn't change. You just pay the evoke cost instead.
  • Whether evoke's sacrifice ability triggers when the creature enters depends on whether the spell's controller chose to pay the evoke cost, not whether they actually paid it (if it was reduced or otherwise altered by another ability, for example).
