"Find me cards equivalent to: Clan Defiance"

Cards equivalent to Clan Defiance (type: Sorcery, color: Red/Green, modal with X damage):
1. Savage Twister — Sorcery, RG, deals X damage to each creature. (Similar X damage, but not modal and doesn't hit players)
2. Electrodominance — Instant, RR, deals X damage to any target (includes creatures/planeswalkers/players, not modal, instant instead of sorcery, single target).
3. Comet Storm — Instant, R, multi-kicker, can deal X damage to multiple targets (can hit creatures/players, flexible targets).
4. Banefire — Sorcery, R, deals X damage to any target (not modal, can hit either creatures or players, not split like Clan Defiance).
5. Rite of the Raging Storm — Sorcery, RG, not modal, but creates attackers each turn (closest in color identity, less connected by effect).

Reason: There are few direct equivalents to the unique modal X-damage of Clan Defiance, but these are closest by color, type, and X-damage flexibility.

  • Banefire can be targeted by spells that try to counter it regardless of what the value of X is. If X is 5 or more, those spells will still resolve, but the part of their effect that would counter Banefire won’t do anything. Any other effects those spells have will work as normal.
  • If its target is illegal by the time Banefire tries to resolve, the spell isn’t countered, but it doesn’t resolve. The target won’t be dealt damage.
  • To determine whether it can be countered and its damage can be prevented, Banefire checks the number you chose for X, not the amount of mana you actually spent or the amount of damage it will actually deal.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • As long as any of its targets are legal at the time Comet Storm resolves, Comet Storm will deal X damage to each of those legal targets.
  • Each target you choose must be different.
  • For example, if you want Comet Storm to deal 4 damage to each of three different targets, that means X is 4 and you're kicking the spell twice. You'll pay a mana cost of {4}{R}{R}, plus a kicker cost of {1}, plus another kicker cost of {1}, for a total of {6}{R}{R}.
  • The number of targets you choose for Comet Storm is one more than the number of times it's kicked. First you declare how many times you're going to kick the spell (at the same time you declare the value of X), then you choose the targets accordingly, then you pay the costs. No player can respond between the time you declare how many times you'll kick the spell and the time you choose the targets.
  • If a card or token enters as a copy of a permanent, the new permanent isn't kicked, even if the original was.
  • If a spell's kicker cost was paid, the spell is "kicked."
  • If you copy a kicked spell on the stack, the copy is also kicked. If the copied spell is a permanent spell, the token the copy of that spell becomes when it enters is also kicked.
  • If you put a permanent with a kicker ability onto the battlefield without casting it, you can't kick it.
  • The kicker ability doesn't let you pay a kicker cost more than once.
  • To determine a spell's total cost, start with the mana cost (or an alternative cost if another card's effect allows you to pay one instead), add any cost increases (such as kicker), then apply any cost reductions. The spell's mana value remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

    Rules

  • Effects that allow you to cast a spell don't allow you to play a land.
  • If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
  • If the target is dealt lethal damage this way, it will still be on the battlefield while you cast a spell from your hand. It won't die until after Electrodominance is finished resolving. If any of its abilities trigger while you cast that spell, those abilities will trigger but won't resolve until after the target has died.
  • If the target is illegal as Electrodominance tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won't get to cast a spell from your hand.
  • If you cast a spell "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Bankrupt in Blood, those must be paid to cast the card.
  • You cast the spell during the resolution of Electrodominance. Ignore timing restrictions based on the spell's type.
