Equivalent cards to Conspiracy Unraveler (colorless, Eldrazi, anti-cascade/effects from exile) include:

  • Drannith Magistrate (White; stops casting from exile/graveyard)
  • Karn, the Great Creator (Colorless; shuts down activated abilities, less specific)
  • Eidolon of Rhetoric (White; limits spell casts)

    Rules

  • If a spell has an additional cost that includes collecting evidence, such as that of Analyze the Pollen, any additional effects that occur "if evidence was collected" will occur only if that additional cost was paid. Using the alternative cost from Conspiracy Unraveler will not cause those additional effects to occur.
  • If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
  • If you are casting a spell from your graveyard (for example, a spell with flashback) you can't also exile that card to pay the alternative collect evidence cost offered by Conspiracy Unraveler.
  • If you can't exile enough cards to meet or exceed the required mana value, you can't choose to collect evidence at all.
  • If you cast a spell for another cost "rather than pay its mana cost", you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Demand Answers, those must be paid to cast the card.
  • If you cast a spell with the alternative collect evidence cost offered by Conspiracy Unraveler and you also collect evidence as an additional cost to cast that spell, abilities of permanents that trigger "whenever you collect evidence" will trigger twice. This is also true for abilities that trigger "whenever one or more cards leave your graveyard." For example, let's say you control Conspiracy Unraveler and Evidence Examiner. You cast Crimestopper Sprite and choose to collect evidence 10 rather than pay its mana cost. You also choose to collect evidence 6 as an additional cost. Each of these will cause Evidence Examiner's last ability to trigger, and you'll end up investigating twice.
  • Once you've announced that you're casting a spell, players can't take actions until you've finished doing so. Notably, opponents can't try to remove cards from your graveyard to stop you from collecting evidence.

  • A noncreature permanent that turns into a creature can attack, and its {T} abilities can be activated, only if its controller has continuously controlled that permanent since the beginning of their most recent turn. It doesn't matter how long the permanent has been a creature.
  • Activated abilities contain a colon. They're generally written "[Cost]: [Effect]." Some keyword abilities are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder text, such as equip. Triggered abilities (starting with "when," "whenever," or "at") are unaffected by Karn.
  • If a permanent has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
  • In a casual game, a card you choose from outside the game comes from your personal collection. In a tournament event, a card you choose from outside the game must come from your sideboard. You may look at your sideboard at any time.
  • Karn's first ability affects only artifacts on the battlefield. Activated abilities that work in other zones can still be activated.
  • Karn's last ability can't get a face-down card in exile, even if you know it's an artifact card.

    Rules

  • If an opponent is instructed to draw a card then discard a card, and Notion Thief causes you to draw a card instead, that opponent still discards a card. The same is true of any other actions that opponent is instructed to do.
  • If two or more players each control a Notion Thief and a player would draw a card other than the first one in their draw step, that player chooses one of the applicable Notion Thief effects to apply. Then the player whose Notion Thief's effect was chosen repeats this process among the remaining Notion Thief effects, and so on, until there are no more possible such effects to apply. Each effect can be applied to the card draw only once this way.
  • The above procedure means that if each player in a two-player game controls a Notion Thief and one would draw a card, it really will be that player who draws a card.
