    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • All cards in the Aether Revolt set with triggered revolt abilities use an intervening "if" clause. A permanent you controlled must have left the battlefield earlier in the turn in order for these abilities to trigger; otherwise they do nothing. In other words, there's no way to have the ability trigger if no permanent you controlled has left the battlefield that turn, even if you intend to have one do so in response to the triggered ability.
  • Energy counters aren't permanents. Paying {E} won't satisfy a revolt ability.
  • Revolt abilities check only whether a permanent you controlled left the battlefield this turn or not. They don't apply multiple times if more than one permanent you controlled left the battlefield. They don't check whether the permanent that left the battlefield is still in the zone it moved to.
  • Revolt abilities don't care why the permanent left the battlefield, who caused it to move, or where it moved to. They're equally satisfied by an artifact you sacrificed to pay a cost, a creature you controlled that was destroyed by Murder, or an enchantment you returned to your hand with Leave in the Dust.
  • Tokens that leave the battlefield will satisfy a revolt ability.

    Rules

  • A face-down creature has no name, so it can't share a name with anything. This includes other creatures with no name.
  • Auras attached to the exiled permanents will be put into their owners' graveyards. Any Equipment will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled permanents will cease to exist.
  • If Deputy of Detention leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, nothing is exiled.
  • If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won't return to the battlefield.
  • If the target nonland permanent is an illegal target by the time this ability tries to resolve, the ability doesn't resolve. Nothing is exiled.
  • This ability has only one target. The other permanents with that name aren't targeted. For example, a permanent with hexproof will be exiled if it has the same name as the target nonland permanent.
  • Unless a token is a copy of another permanent or was explicitly given a name by the effect that created it, its name is the subtypes it was given when it was created plus the word "Token." For example, if an effect creates a 1/1 Soldier creature token, that token is named "Soldier Token."

    Rules

  • If Fiend Hunter leaves the battlefield before its first ability has resolved, its second ability will trigger and do nothing. Then its first ability will resolve and exile the target creature indefinitely. This is different from abilities on other cards that exile a permanent "until" something happens.
  • If a token is exiled this way, it won't return to the battlefield.
  • In a multiplayer game, if you lose the game, the creature exiled with Fiend Hunter remains exiled indefinitely. This is also different from abilities on other cards that exile a permanent "until" something happens.
  • Once the exiled creature returns, it's considered a new object with no relation to the object that it was. Auras attached to the exiled creature will be put into their owners' graveyards. Equipment attached to the exiled creature will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled creature will cease to exist.

    Rules

  • Auras attached to the exiled creature will be put into their owners' graveyards. Equipment attached to the exiled creature will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Counters on the exiled creature will cease to exist.
  • Being the monarch carries two inherent triggered abilities. "At the beginning of the monarch's end step, that player draws a card" and "Whenever a creature deals combat damage to the monarch, its controller becomes the monarch."
  • If a creature token is exiled, it ceases to exist. It won't return to the battlefield.
  • If you're not the monarch as Palace Jailer's second ability resolves, the creature will be exiled until there's a new monarch and that player is one of your opponents. The creature won't immediately return just because an opponent is the monarch.
  • In a multiplayer game, if the monarch leaves the game, the player whose turn it is immediately becomes the monarch. If the player whose turn it is has left the game, instead the next player in turn order becomes the monarch.
  • Palace Jailer leaving the battlefield won't cause the exiled creature to return. The game will continue to watch for the next time an opponent becomes the monarch.
  • The game starts with no monarch. Once an effect makes one player the monarch, the game will have exactly one monarch from that point forward.
  • The opponent that controlled the exiled card doesn't have to be the same opponent that becomes the monarch in order to cause that card to return to the battlefield. Any opponent becoming the monarch will cause the card to return.

  • If Skyclave Apparition leaves the battlefield before its first ability resolves, the ability still exiles the target permanent.
  • If Skyclave Apparition's first ability exiled more than one card owned by a single player, that player creates a token with power and toughness equal to the sum of those cards' mana values. If the first ability exiled cards owned by more than one player, each of those players creates a token with power and toughness equal to the sum of the mana values of all cards exiled by the first ability.
  • If a creature on the battlefield has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
  • If there's no exiled card when Skyclave Apparition leaves the battlefield (most likely because its first ability hasn't resolved yet), no player creates a token.
