"Find me cards equivalent to: Divergent Transformations"

Equivalent cards to Divergent Transformations (Instant, Red):

  • Chaos Warp (R, Instant, Exile target permanent, controller reveals cards until a permanent of the same type is put onto the battlefield)
  • Mizzix's Mastery (R, Instant, Exile an instant or sorcery, then cast copies for each exiled; less exact, but shares exile-and-replace feels)
  • Reality Scramble (R, Sorcery, Exile an artifact/creature, top card entered, but is sorcery speed)

Reason: Red has very few instants matching the exact Polymorph effect at instant speed, so Chaos Warp is the closest functional equivalent, though it works for any permanent, not just creatures. Divergent Transformations stands out for its multiplayer and double-target capability.

  • A permanent card is a card with one or more of the following card types: artifact, creature, enchantment, land, or planeswalker.
  • If the permanent is an illegal target by the time Chaos Warp tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will occur. No library will be shuffled and no card will be revealed.
  • If the revealed card is a permanent card but can't enter (perhaps because it's an Aura with nothing to enchant), it remains on top of that library.
  • If the revealed card is not a permanent card, it remains on top of that library.
  • The owner of a token is the player under whose control the token was put onto the battlefield. If a token is shuffled into a player's library this way, that player shuffles before revealing the top card of that library.

The owner of target permanent shuffles it into their library, then reveals the top card of their library. If it's a permanent card, they put it onto the battlefield.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Undaunted

    Rules

  • Any abilities that trigger during the resolution of Divergent Transformations will wait to be put onto the stack until Divergent Transformations finishes resolving. An ability that triggers on the first creature entering the battlefield may target the second creature and vice versa.
  • Causing an opponent to lose the game after you've announced that you're casting a spell with undaunted and determined its total cost won't cause you to have to pay more mana.
  • Effects that reduce what you pay to cast a spell don't affect its mana value.
  • If one player's creatures are exiled this way, that player repeats this process twice.
  • If the controller of a creature exiled this way has no creature cards left in their library, that player reveals the cards in their library, then shuffles it.
  • If two players' creatures are exiled this way, start with the player whose turn it is. If that player controlled a creature exiled this way, that player follows the process on Divergent Transformations to replace it. If not, proceed to the next player in turn order. Repeat until the players who controlled the exiled creatures have each replaced those creatures.
  • The two creatures that are put onto the battlefield are put onto the battlefield sequentially. Triggered abilities of the second won't see the first enter the battlefield.
  • You can't cast Divergent Transformations without two target creatures. If a targeted creature becomes an illegal target for Divergent Transformations after it's been cast, its controller won't exile or replace that creature, but the other creature is still affected.

Undaunted (This spell costs less to cast for each opponent.) Exile two target creatures. For each of those creatures, its controller reveals cards from the top of their library until they reveal a creature card, puts that card onto the battlefield, then shuffles the rest into their library.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Overload

    Rules

  • If Mizzix's Mastery exiled multiple cards, you may cast the copies in any order. The last copy you cast will be the first one to resolve.
  • If the copy has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X.
  • If you cast a spell "without paying its mana cost," you can't pay any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, you must pay those.
  • If you don't cast one of the copies (perhaps because there are no legal targets available or you don't want to), the copy will cease to exist.
  • Mizzix's Mastery is still on the stack as it resolves. If you pay the overload cost, Mizzix's Mastery won't copy itself.
  • The cards remain exiled no matter what happens to the copies.
  • The copies are created and cast during the resolution of Mizzix's Mastery. You can't wait to cast them later in the turn. Timing restrictions based on the copy's type are ignored. Other restrictions (such as "Cast [this spell] only during combat") are not.
  • Because a spell with overload doesn't target when its overload cost is paid, it may affect permanents with hexproof or with protection from the appropriate color.
  • If you are instructed to cast a spell with overload "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to pay its overload cost instead.
  • If you don't pay the overload cost of a spell with overload, that spell will have a single target. If you pay the overload cost, the spell won't have any targets.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying (such as an overload cost), add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

Exile target card that's an instant or sorcery from your graveyard. For each card exiled this way, copy it, and you may cast the copy without paying its mana cost. Exile Mizzix's Mastery. Overload (You may cast this spell for its overload cost. If you do, change "target" in its text to "each.")

  • If there are no creatures in the player’s library, then the target creature is still destroyed, you see all the cards in that player’s library, and then they shuffle and continue play.
  • A “creature card” is any card with the type creature, even if it has other types such as artifact, enchantment, or land. Older cards of type summon are also creature cards.
  • If the targeted creature is an illegal target by the time Polymorph would resolve, the entire spell doesn’t resolve. Nothing else happens.
  • If there are no creature cards in the player’s library, all the cards in that library are revealed, then the library is shuffled. (The targeted creature remains destroyed.)
  • If the targeted creature has indestructible, it’s still a legal target — it just isn’t destroyed. The rest of Polymorph’s effect happens as normal.

    Retrace

    Rules

  • Casting a card by using its retrace ability works just like casting any other spell, with two exceptions: You’re casting it from your graveyard rather than your hand, and you must discard a land card in addition to any other costs.
  • Casting a card with retrace from your graveyard follows the normal timing rules for its card type.
  • In most cases, at least one card in your library (the card you put on the bottom of your library) will share a card type with the target permanent. However, in some unusual situations, no cards in your library share a card type with the permanent (perhaps because the permanent was a token or its types were changed). In that case, you’ll reveal your entire library, put nothing onto the battlefield, and put the cards back in a random order.
  • Reality Scramble can target any permanent you own, including those another player controls. A token’s owner is the player who created it.
  • The target permanent’s last known existence on the battlefield is checked to determine its types.
  • When a retrace card you cast from your graveyard resolves or is countered, it’s put back into your graveyard. You may use the retrace ability to cast it again. If it’s your turn, you may do so before any other player may take actions to try to remove it from your graveyard.
  • You’ll stop as soon as you reveal a card that shares any card types with the target permanent. For example, if the target permanent is an artifact creature, you’ll stop as soon as you reveal a card that’s an artifact or a creature.
