"Find me cards equivalent to: Dusk Charger"

Equivalent cards (black, similar ability/creature type):

  • Dusk Charger (reference)
  • Dread Presence (Black Horse, special ability related to land)
  • Nightmare (Black Horse, power/toughness based on Swamps you control)
  • Rapacious Guest (Only for Horse and black, but not similar ability)

Reason: There are very few black Horse creatures with abilities similar to ascend or conditional P/T boosts. Dusk Charger and Nightmare are the closest. There are no direct ascend equivalents in mono-black Horse creatures.

  • A Swamp is a land with the subtype Swamp, not any land with a mana ability that produces black mana.
  • If you choose the second mode and the chosen target is an illegal target by the time Dread Presence's triggered ability tries to resolve, the ability doesn't resolve. You won't gain 2 life, and the ability won't change to the first mode.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Ascend

    Rules

  • A permanent is any object on the battlefield, including tokens and lands. Spells and emblems aren't permanents.
  • Ascend on a permanent isn't a triggered ability and doesn't use the stack. Players can respond to a spell that will give you your tenth permanent, but they can't respond to getting the city's blessing once you control that tenth permanent. This means that if your tenth permanent is a land you play, players can't respond before you get the city's blessing.
  • If you cast a spell with ascend, you don't get the city's blessing until it resolves. Players may respond to that spell by trying to change whether you get the city's blessing.
  • If you control ten permanents but don't control a permanent or resolving spell with ascend, you don't get the city's blessing. For example, if you control ten permanents, lose control of one, then cast Golden Demise, you won't have the city's blessing and the spell will affect creatures you control.
  • If your tenth permanent enters the battlefield and then a permanent leaves the battlefield immediately afterwards (most likely due to the "Legend Rule" or due to being a creature with 0 toughness), you get the city's blessing before it leaves the battlefield.
  • Once you have the city's blessing, you have it for the rest of the game, even if you lose control of some or all of your permanents. The city's blessing isn't a permanent itself and can't be removed by any effect.
  • Some cards get power, toughness, and/or abilities once you have the city's blessing. If another card has an ability that triggers when creatures with certain characteristics enter the battlefield (such as Mentor of the Meek or Elemental Bond do), use the entering permanent's characteristics after you have the city's blessing to determine whether those abilities trigger. This is true even if the entering permanent is your tenth permanent.

    Flying

    Rules

  • If you control 0 swamps, then the Nightmare has 0 toughness and will be put into its owner’s graveyard as a state-based action right before the next player gains priority.
  • Nightmare’s power and toughness changes as the number of Swamps you control changes.
  • Nightmare’s ability counts all lands you control with the subtype Swamp, not just ones named Swamp.
  • The ability that defines Nightmare’s power and toughness works everywhere, not just on the battlefield.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Menace

    Rules

  • Rapacious Guest's third ability triggers whenever you sacrifice a Food for any reason, not just to activate a Food's activated ability.
  • To determine the amount of life the target opponent loses from Rapacious Guest's last ability, use Rapacious Guest's power as it last existed on the battlefield, not its power in the graveyard.
  • Food is an artifact type. Even though it appears on some creatures, it's never a creature type.
  • If an effect refers to a Food, it means any Food artifact, not just a Food artifact token. For example, you can sacrifice Tough Cookie (an Artifact Creature — Food Golem) to activate Maraleaf Rider's ability (an ability with "Sacrifice a Food" in its cost).
  • Whatever you do, don't eat the delicious cards.
  • You can't sacrifice a Food to pay multiple costs. For example, you can't sacrifice a Food token to activate its own ability and also to activate Maraleaf Rider's ability.
