AI 🤖 Find me cards equivalent to: Electrodominance

Equivalent cards to Electrodominance (Red, instant-speed, X damage, casts a spell for free) include:
1. Fires of Invention (lets you cast spells for free, but only on your turn and at sorcery speed)
2. Cascade cards like Violent Outburst (cast a spell for free, but more limited control)
3. Chaotic Aether is colorless but lets you cast random spells
4. Mizzix’s Mastery (lets you cast any number of instants/sorceries from your graveyard for free)
5. Comet Storm (X damage, but no free cast)

Closest direct equivalent: Expansion // Explosion does X damage (to any target) and can draw/mill, but does not cast for free.

Reason:
Electrodominance is unique for both X instant damage and casting a spell for free at instant speed. No other red instant matches both effects exactly.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • As long as any of its targets are legal at the time Comet Storm resolves, Comet Storm will deal X damage to each of those legal targets.
  • Each target you choose must be different.
  • For example, if you want Comet Storm to deal 4 damage to each of three different targets, that means X is 4 and you're kicking the spell twice. You'll pay a mana cost of {4}{R}{R}, plus a kicker cost of {1}, plus another kicker cost of {1}, for a total of {6}{R}{R}.
  • The number of targets you choose for Comet Storm is one more than the number of times it's kicked. First you declare how many times you're going to kick the spell (at the same time you declare the value of X), then you choose the targets accordingly, then you pay the costs. No player can respond between the time you declare how many times you'll kick the spell and the time you choose the targets.
  • If a card or token enters as a copy of a permanent, the new permanent isn't kicked, even if the original was.
  • If a spell's kicker cost was paid, the spell is "kicked."
  • If you copy a kicked spell on the stack, the copy is also kicked. If the copied spell is a permanent spell, the token the copy of that spell becomes when it enters is also kicked.
  • If you put a permanent with a kicker ability onto the battlefield without casting it, you can't kick it.
  • The kicker ability doesn't let you pay a kicker cost more than once.
  • To determine a spell's total cost, start with the mana cost (or an alternative cost if another card's effect allows you to pay one instead), add any cost increases (such as kicker), then apply any cost reductions. The spell's mana value remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

    Rules

  • Effects that allow you to cast a spell don't allow you to play a land.
  • If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
  • If the target is dealt lethal damage this way, it will still be on the battlefield while you cast a spell from your hand. It won't die until after Electrodominance is finished resolving. If any of its abilities trigger while you cast that spell, those abilities will trigger but won't resolve until after the target has died.
  • If the target is illegal as Electrodominance tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. You won't get to cast a spell from your hand.
  • If you cast a spell "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Bankrupt in Blood, those must be paid to cast the card.
  • You cast the spell during the resolution of Electrodominance. Ignore timing restrictions based on the spell's type.

    Rules

  • A split card's characteristics are a combination of its two halves while it is not on the stack. For example, Assault // Battery has a mana value of 5 while it is in your library. If an effect allows you to search your library for a card with mana value 4 or less, you can't find Assault // Battery.
  • Each split card has two names. If an effect instructs you to choose a card name, you may choose one of those names, but not both.
  • Each split card is a single card. For example, if you discard a split card, you've discarded one card, not two. If an effect counts the number of sorcery cards in your graveyard, Assault // Battery counts once, not twice.
  • If an effect allows you to cast a spell with certain characteristics, consider only the characteristics of the half you're casting. For example, if an effect allows you to cast a sorcery spell with mana value 2 or less from among cards in your graveyard, you could cast Assault this way, but not Battery.
  • If you copy a spell that's half of a split card, the copy copies that same half. For example, if you copy Assault, the copy is also Assault, not Battery.
  • Split cards have two card faces on a single card. The characteristics of the half you didn't cast are ignored while the spell is on the stack.
  • To cast a split card, choose one of its halves to cast. There's no way to cast both halves of this split card.
  • Any choices made as a spell resolves won't have been made yet once it's copied. Any such choices will be made separately as the copy resolves.
  • Expansion can copy any instant or sorcery spell with an appropriate mana value, not just one with targets.
  • If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, include the value chosen for that X when determining the mana value of that spell.
  • If one of Explosion's two targets becomes illegal, the other is affected as appropriate.
  • If the spell has damage divided as it was cast, the division can't be changed (although the targets receiving that damage still can). The same is true of spells that distribute counters.
  • If the spell that's copied has an X whose value was determined as it was cast (like Banefire does), the copy will have the same value of X.
  • If the spell that's copied is modal (that is, it says "Choose one —" or the like), the copy will have the same mode or modes. You can't choose different ones.
  • If you copy a spell, you control the copy. It will resolve before the original spell does.
  • The controller of a copy can't choose to pay any alternative or additional costs for the copy. However, effects based on any alternative or additional costs that were paid for the original spell are copied as though those same costs were paid for the copy.
  • The copy is created on the stack, so it's not "cast." Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won't trigger.
  • The copy will have the same targets as the spell it's copying unless you choose new ones. You may change any number of the targets, including all of them or none of them. If, for one of the targets, you can't choose a new legal target, then it remains unchanged (even if the current target is illegal).

    Rules

  • Fires of Invention doesn't impose any restrictions on playing lands or activating abilities.
  • Fires of Invention will look at the entire turn to see if you've cast two spells yet that turn, even if Fires of Invention wasn't on the battlefield when those spells were cast. Notably, you can't cast Fires of Invention and then cast two more spells that turn; if Fires of Invention was your second (or third, or fourth) spell that turn, you can't cast another spell at all.
  • If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
  • If an effect allows or instructs you to cast a spell during another player's turn, you can't do so. The restriction of Fires of Invention takes precedence over that permission. Similarly, if an effect allows or instructs you to cast a third spell during your turn, you can't do so.
  • If an effect says that you may cast a card that you couldn't otherwise cast if you pay an alternative cost (such as the flashback keyword), you have to pay that alternative cost if you use that permission to cast the card. You can't choose to cast it but cast it without paying its mana cost.
  • If you cast a card “without paying its mana cost,” you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs (such as that of Fling), you must pay those to cast the card.
  • If you cast a spell that was countered, it still counts as one of your two spells.
  • If you cast one card twice during a turn (such as by casting it as an Adventure and then casting it from exile as a creature), you've cast two spells.
  • You may choose to pay the mana cost or an alternative cost for spells you cast, even if their mana value is less than or equal to the number of lands you control.

    Cascade

    Rules

  • A spell's mana value is determined only by its mana cost. Ignore any alternative costs, additional costs, cost increases, or cost reductions.
  • Cascade triggers when you cast the spell, meaning that it resolves before that spell. If you end up casting the exiled card, it will go on the stack above the spell with cascade.
  • Due to a 2021 rules change to cascade, not only do you stop exiling cards if you exile a nonland card with lesser mana value than the spell with cascade, but the resulting spell you cast must also have lesser mana value. Previously, in cases where a card's mana value differed from the resulting spell, such as with some modal double-faced cards or cards with an Adventure, you could cast a spell with a higher mana value than the exiled card.
  • If a spell with cascade is countered, the cascade ability will still resolve normally.
  • If the card has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
  • If you cast a card "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, you must pay those to cast the card.
  • The mana value of a split card is determined by the combined mana cost of its two halves. If cascade allows you to cast a split card, you may cast either half but not both halves.
  • When the cascade ability resolves, you must exile cards. The only optional part of the ability is whether or not you cast the last card exiled.
  • You exile the cards face up. All players will be able to see them.
