    Rules

  • Does not exile other cards of the same name that are on the battlefield. Just from the graveyard, hand, and library.
  • If a copy card is targeted by this effect, you get to look for another copy of the card it is copying. This is because a copy card actually takes on the name and initial characteristics of what it copies.
  • Use the name of the card as it leaves the battlefield.
  • If you manage to turn a land (such as a Forest or Stalking Stones) into a creature, you can indeed use this effect on that basic land type. Eradicate’s exile effect only looks for cards by name, not type.
  • The copies must be found if they are in publicly viewable zones. Finding copies while searching private zones is optional.
  • A face-down creature has no name, so no card can possibly share a name with it (not even other cards with no name). If you Eradicate a face-down creature you will still search its controller’s library, but you won’t be able to exile any cards from that library.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • After a spell with split second resolves (or otherwise leaves the stack), players may again cast spells and activate abilities before the next object on the stack resolves.
  • Because the first step of casting a spell is to move it from the zone it's in, Extirpate can't be used to stop a spell with flashback from being cast after its controller has announced that they're casting it.
  • Casting a spell with split second won't affect spells and abilities that are already on the stack.
  • If the resolution of a triggered ability involves casting a spell, that spell can't be cast if a spell with split second is on the stack.
  • Players may turn face-down creatures face up while a spell with split second is on the stack.
  • Players still get priority while a card with split second is on the stack; their options are just limited to mana abilities and certain special actions.
  • Split second doesn't stop triggered abilities from triggering, such as that of Chalice of the Void. If one does, its controller puts it on the stack and chooses targets for it, if any. Those abilities will resolve as normal.
  • You don't have to find and exile cards with the same name as the target card in its owner's hand or library if you don't want to, but you do have to exile the cards from the player's graveyard.

Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.) Choose target card in a graveyard other than a basic land card. Search its owner's graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with the same name as that card and exile them. Then that player shuffles.

  • Because you’re searching for “any number” of cards with the chosen name, you can opt to find all of them, none of them, or any number in between. That means you may leave any cards with that name in that target’s graveyard, hand, and/or library.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Flashback

    Rules

  • A double-faced creature only has the name of the face that's up. For example, if Village Ironsmith is targeted by Sever the Bloodline, Ironfang wouldn't be exiled.
  • If the targeted creature is an illegal target by the time Sever the Bloodline resolves, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. No creatures will be exiled.
  • Only creatures on the battlefield will be exiled. In other zones, they're "creature cards," not "creatures."
  • "Flashback [cost]" means "You may cast this card from your graveyard by paying [cost] rather than paying its mana cost" and "If the flashback cost was paid, exile this card instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack."
  • A spell cast using flashback will always be exiled afterward, whether it resolves, is countered, or leaves the stack in some other way.
  • If a card with flashback is put into your graveyard during your turn, you can cast it if it's legal to do so before any other player can take any actions.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost (such as a flashback cost) you're paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell is determined only by its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast the spell was.
  • You can cast a spell using flashback even if it was somehow put into your graveyard without having been cast.
  • You must still follow any timing restrictions and permissions, including those based on the card's type. For instance, you can cast a sorcery using flashback only when you could normally cast a sorcery.
  • Unless a token is a copy of another permanent or was explicitly given a name by the effect that created it, its name is the subtypes it was given when it was created plus the word "Token." For example, if an effect creates a 1/1 Soldier creature token, that token is named "Soldier Token."
  • If the target creature is an illegal target by the time Sever the Bloodline tries to resolve, the spell won’t resolve. You won’t exile any creatures at all.
  • Sever the Bloodline has only one target. Other creatures with the same name will be exiled even if they have hexproof or protection.
  • Unless a token is a copy of another permanent or was explicitly given a name by the effect that created it, its name is the subtypes it was given when it was created plus the word “Token.” For example, if an effect creates a 1/1 Soldier creature token, that token is named “Soldier Token.”
