"Find me cards equivalent to: Esoteric Duplicator"

Equivalent cards to Esoteric Duplicator (blue artifact, cares about sacrificing artifacts, creates copy tokens):

  • Mirage Mirror: Can become a copy of another artifact, but not a clue and without the sac/draw synergy.
  • Echo Storm: Creates token copies of artifacts, but is a sorcery and not directly related to sacrificing.
  • Mirrorworks: Creates a token copy of another artifact you cast, not on sacrifice.
  • Jinxed Idol: Involves sacrificing, but doesn't make copies and isn't blue-aligned.
  • Academy Manufactor: Related to Clues & artifact tokens but doesn’t copy artifacts.
  • Esoteric Duplicator: Included for reference.

Note: No existing blue artifact clues have all Esoteric Duplicator's abilities, but Mirrorworks is the closest for making artifact copy tokens within blue artifact color identity. The unique combination of sacrifice + copy is very rare.

  • Creating a Clue token this way isn't the same thing as investigating. Notably, an ability that triggers whenever you investigate won't trigger because you created a Clue token due to this replacement effect. If the original token creation was because you investigated once, those abilities will still each trigger once, no matter how many Clue tokens you end up creating.
  • If you control eighteen Academy Manufactors (I don't know, you figure it out) and would create some number of Clue, Food, or Treasure tokens, you will instead create 129,140,163 times that many Clue tokens, 129,140,163 times that many Food tokens, and 129,140,163 times that many Treasure tokens.
  • If you control one Academy Manufactor and would create some number of Clue, Food, or Treasure tokens, you will instead create that many Clue tokens, that many Food tokens, and that many Treasure tokens.
  • If you control two Academy Manufactors and would create some number of Clue, Food, or Treasure tokens, you will instead create three times that many Clue tokens, three times that many Food tokens, and three times that many Treasure tokens.

    Rules

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied artifact will trigger when the token enters the battlefield. Any “as [this artifact] enters the battlefield” or “[this artifact] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the chosen artifact will also work.
  • Each Storm's triggered ability can copy the Storm spell even if that spell is countered before that ability resolves.
  • Each Storm's triggered ability counts only how many times you've cast your commander from the command zone before that triggered ability resolves. If you cast your commander again later, you won't get another copy.
  • Each copy resolves one at a time. Any abilities that trigger on the artifact token entering the battlefield resolve before the next copy resolves. The original spell is the last to resolve.
  • If the copied artifact has {X} in its mana cost, X is considered to be 0.
  • If the copied artifact is a token, the token that's created copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created the token.
  • If the copied artifact is copying something else (for example, if the copied artifact is a Sculpting Steel), then the token enters the battlefield as whatever that artifact copied.
  • If your commander was countered, that time you cast it still counts.
  • The copies are created on the stack, so they're not “cast.” Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell (such as the Storm's ability itself) won't trigger.
  • The token copies exactly what was printed on the original artifact and nothing else (unless that artifact is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether that artifact is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its types, color, or so on.
  • If you have multiple commanders, you'll copy this spell for each time you've cast either of them. For example, if you've cast one commander once and one twice, you'll copy this spell three times.

  • Your opponent can use the ability to give this card back to you.
  • If you sacrifice an attacking or blocking creature during the declare blockers step, it won’t deal combat damage. If you wait until the combat damage step, but that creature is dealt lethal damage, it’ll be destroyed before you get a chance to sacrifice it.
  • The control-change effect has no duration. The targeted player retains control of Jinxed Idol until the game ends, Jinxed Idol leaves the battlefield, or an effect causes someone else to gain control of it (perhaps because Jinxed Idol’s ability is activated again).

  • If Mirage Mirror becomes a copy of a legendary permanent you control, you'll put one of them into your graveyard.
  • If Mirage Mirror becomes a copy of an Aura, it's put into its owner's graveyard unless it's somehow attached to an appropriate object or player already. If it becomes a copy of an Equipment and is attached to a creature, it'll become unattached when it becomes a non-Equipment artifact again.
  • If Mirage Mirror becomes a creature the same turn it enters the battlefield, you can't attack with it or use any of its {T} abilities (if it gains any) unless it has haste.
  • If Mirage Mirror copies a permanent that's copying something else, it will become whatever the target is copying.
  • If an effect begins to apply to Mirage Mirror before it becomes a copy of another permanent, that effect will continue to apply. For example, if Mirage Mirror is activated twice in response to itself targeting first Rampaging Hippo then Frilled Sandwalla, the ability it has while it's a copy of Frilled Sandwalla can be activated and its effect will continue to apply while Mirage Mirror is a copy of Rampaging Hippo.
  • If you activate Mirage Mirror's ability multiple times in a turn in response to itself, then each time one of those abilities resolves, it will overwrite whatever Mirage Mirror is copying. Mirage Mirror will wind up as a copy of the permanent targeted by the last ability to resolve. When the turn ends, all instances of the ability will wear off at the same time.
  • Mirage Mirror copies the printed values of the target permanent, plus any copy effects that have been applied to it. It won't copy counters on that permanent or effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on. Notably, it won't copy effects that made the target permanent become a creature.
  • Once Mirage Mirror's ability resolves, it no longer has that ability.

  • As the token is created, it checks the printed values of the artifact it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it.
  • Each time the ability triggers, you can pay {2} only one time to get one token.
  • If the artifact that caused Mirrorworks's ability to trigger has already left the battlefield by the time the ability resolves, you can still pay {2}. If you do, you'll still put a token onto the battlefield. That token has the copiable values of the characteristics of that nontoken artifact as it last existed on the battlefield.
  • The copiable values of the token's characteristics are the same as the copiable values of the characteristics of the artifact it's copying.
