    Rules

  • A card's mana value is determined solely by the mana symbols printed in its upper right corner. The mana value is the total amount of mana in that cost, regardless of color. For example, a card with mana cost {1}{U}{U} has mana value 3. Ignore any alternative costs, additional costs, cost increases, or cost reductions that could apply to it. A card with no mana cost has a mana value of 0.
  • All counters with the same name are indistinguishable from other counters with that name. Cards from the Time Spiral block that interact with time counters will interact with As Foretold.
  • If a spell has no mana cost, its mana value is 0. You can cast it with As Foretold's alternative cost.
  • If the card has X in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it for another cost that doesn't include X. For example, if there are five time counters on As Foretold and you choose to use its effect to cast Pull from Tomorrow, X must be 0. X can't be 2, even though the spell's mana value would be 4.
  • If you control multiple As Foretolds, you may cast one spell for each of them paying {0}.
  • If you're casting a split card, only the mana value of the half you're casting is compared to the number of time counters on As Foretold. This is because only that half is on the stack at the time that you choose to apply the effect of As Foretold.
  • If you cast a spell for an alternative cost of {0}, you can't pay any other alternative costs, such as emerge costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as bargain. If the spell has any mandatory additional costs, such as that of Tormenting Voice, you must pay those to cast the spell.

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a timecounteron this enchantment. Once each turn, you may pay rather than pay the mana cost for a spell you cast with mana value X or less, where X is the number of time counters on this enchantment.

    Rules

  • Experimental Frenzy lets you look at the top card of your library whenever you want (with one restriction—see below), even if you don’t have priority. This action doesn’t use the stack. Knowing what that card is becomes part of the information you have access to, just like you can look at the cards in your hand.
  • If the top card of your library changes while you’re casting a spell, playing a land, or activating an ability, you can’t look at the new top card until you finish doing so. This means that if you cast the top card of your library, you can’t look at the next one until you’re done paying for that spell.
  • You can play a land card on top of your library only if you have available land plays remaining.
  • You can’t cast spells or play lands from your hand, but you may take other actions with those cards (such as discarding them to activate their cycling or bloodrush abilities).
  • You must follow the normal timing permissions and restrictions of the cards you play from your library.
  • You’ll still pay all costs for a spell you cast from your library, including additional costs. You may also pay alternative costs.

    Rules

  • Fires of Invention doesn't impose any restrictions on playing lands or activating abilities.
  • Fires of Invention will look at the entire turn to see if you've cast two spells yet that turn, even if Fires of Invention wasn't on the battlefield when those spells were cast. Notably, you can't cast Fires of Invention and then cast two more spells that turn; if Fires of Invention was your second (or third, or fourth) spell that turn, you can't cast another spell at all.
  • If a spell has {X} in its mana cost, you must choose 0 as the value of X when casting it without paying its mana cost.
  • If an effect allows or instructs you to cast a spell during another player's turn, you can't do so. The restriction of Fires of Invention takes precedence over that permission. Similarly, if an effect allows or instructs you to cast a third spell during your turn, you can't do so.
  • If an effect says that you may cast a card that you couldn't otherwise cast if you pay an alternative cost (such as the flashback keyword), you have to pay that alternative cost if you use that permission to cast the card. You can't choose to cast it but cast it without paying its mana cost.
  • If you cast a card “without paying its mana cost,” you can't choose to cast it for any alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs (such as that of Fling), you must pay those to cast the card.
  • If you cast a spell that was countered, it still counts as one of your two spells.
  • If you cast one card twice during a turn (such as by casting it as an Adventure and then casting it from exile as a creature), you've cast two spells.
  • You may choose to pay the mana cost or an alternative cost for spells you cast, even if their mana value is less than or equal to the number of lands you control.
