"Find me cards equivalent to: Hallowed Moonlight"

Equivalent cards to Hallowed Moonlight (Instant, color W, similar effect) include:

  • Containment Priest (White, Flash creature, replacement effect for nontoken creatures)
  • Rest in Peace (White, enchantment, affects all graveyard creatures)
  • Tocatli Honor Guard (White, creature, prevents ETB abilities—partial similarity)

Reason: Hallowed Moonlight is unique in being an instant that draws a card and exiles uncast creatures. Others have similar replacement/exile effects but usually as creatures or enchantments.

  • Containment Priest's last ability won't affect any creatures that were cast, including ones cast from unusual zones such as your graveyard.
  • If Containment Priest enters the battlefield at the same time as other creatures, its ability won't affect those creatures.
  • If Containment Priest enters the battlefield without being cast, its ability won't exile itself.
  • If a noncreature card wasn't cast and is entering the battlefield as a creature (due to an effect such as that of March of the Machines), it will be exiled. Conversely, if a creature card wasn't cast and is entering the battlefield as a noncreature permanent (for example, Heliod, Sun-Crowned with insufficient devotion), it won't be exiled.

  • After Hallowed Moonlight resolves, if a creature token would be put onto the battlefield, it’s put into exile instead and then ceases to exist. Creature tokens are never cast, even if the spell that created them was.
  • Hallowed Moonlight won’t affect any creature that was cast, no matter which zone it was cast from and whether or not its mana cost was paid.

    Rules

  • If Rest in Peace is destroyed by a spell, Rest in Peace will be exiled and then the spell will be put into its owner's graveyard.
  • If a card is discarded while Rest in Peace is on the battlefield, abilities that function when a card is discarded (such as madness) still work, even though that card never reaches a graveyard. In addition, spells or abilities that check the characteristics of a discarded card (such as Chandra Ablaze's first ability) can find that card in exile.
  • While Rest in Peace is on the battlefield, abilities that trigger whenever a creature dies won't trigger because cards and tokens are never put into a player's graveyard.

    Rules

  • If Tocatli Honor Guard and another creature enter the battlefield at the same time, neither creature entering the battlefield will cause triggered abilities to trigger.
  • Look at the permanent as it exists on the battlefield, taking into account continuous effects, to determine whether any triggered abilities will trigger. For example, if you control March of the Machines, which says, in part, “Each noncreature artifact is an artifact creature,” each artifact will be a creature at the time it enters the battlefield and will not cause triggered abilities to trigger.
  • Replacement effects, such as a permanent entering the battlefield tapped or with counters on it, are unaffected. Abilities that apply “as [this creature] enters the battlefield” are replacement effects.
  • The trigger event doesn’t have to specify “creatures” entering the battlefield. For example, Contraband Kingpin has an ability that says “Whenever an artifact enters the battlefield under your control, scry 1.” If an artifact creature enters the battlefield under your control, that ability won’t trigger. If a noncreature artifact enters the battlefield under your control, the ability will trigger.
  • Tocatli Honor Guard’s ability stops a creature’s own enters-the-battlefield triggered abilities as well as other triggered abilities that would trigger when a creature enters the battlefield. This includes abilities that would trigger when Tocatli Honor Guard itself enters the battlefield.
  • Triggered abilities use the word “when,” “whenever,” or “at.” They’re usually written as “[Trigger condition], [effect].”
