"Find me cards equivalent to: Machine God's Effigy"

Equivalent/similar cards in colorless artifacts:

  • Sculpting Steel—Can copy any artifact.
  • Phyrexian Metamorph—Can copy an artifact or creature and enters as an artifact, but is blue.
  • Mirrorworks—Copies artifact as it enters.
  • Mirage Mirror—Temporarily copies creatures, artifacts, etc.
  • Cemetery Illuminator—Blue, not colorless, can copy text, but not as enter-the-battlefield artifact.

None are exact; Machine God's Effigy is unique for copying creatures as noncreature artifacts that tap for blue. Sculpting Steel is closest for copying, but artifacts only.

    Rules

  • Card types that can be exiled from a graveyard include artifact, creature, enchantment, land, planeswalker, instant, and sorcery. Legendary, basic, and snow are supertypes, not card types. Human, Equipment, and Aura are subtypes, not card types.
  • Cemetery Illuminator's ability allows you to cast a spell that shares a card type with the exiled card, even if the card on top of the library doesn't. For example, if you've exiled an artifact card, you could cast The Omenkeel from the top of your library, even though it's the back face of the modal double-faced card Cosima, God of the Voyage, which isn't an artifact.

Flying Whenever this creature enters or attacks, exile a card from a graveyard. You may look at the top card of your library any time. Once each turn, you may cast a spell from the top of your library if it shares a card type with a card exiled with this creature.

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Machine God’s Effigy enters the battlefield. Any “as [this creature] enters the battlefield” or “[this creature] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the chosen creature will also work. Note that some of these effects may function correctly only if it is a creature, and will not do anything productive since the copy is an artifact, not a creature.
  • Except for its types and non-artifact subtypes, Machine God’s Effigy copies exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing more (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token; see below), and it will have “{T}:Add {U}.” It doesn’t copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its types, color, and so on.
  • If Machine God’s Effigy copies a Saga that has become a creature due to an effect, it will have that Saga’s chapter abilities, but it won’t get a lore counter every turn because it isn’t itself a Saga since its only card type is artifact. Unless it has the read ahead ability found on some Saga cards in the Dominaria United set, it also won’t enter the battlefield with any counters. If you do find a way to put lore counters on it, the appropriate ability or abilities will trigger. It will not be sacrificed after it has lore counters equal to its final chapter number.
  • If Machine God’s Effigy copies a land with a basic land type that has become a creature due to an effect, it will not have any mana abilities that land had due to its land types (it will have the one it gives itself, though). For example, if a basic Forest became a creature due to some effect, and Machine God’s Effigy entered the battlefield as a copy of it, it would be a basic artifact named Forest and have “{T}: Add {U},” but not the intrinsic ability “{T}: Add {G}.”
  • If Machine God’s Effigy copies a planeswalker that became a creature due to an effect, Machine God’s Effigy will have that planeswalker’s loyalty abilities but its only card type is artifact (it will still be legendary in most cases). Because it isn’t a planeswalker itself, it won’t enter the battlefield with any loyalty counters, but it also won’t die because due to not having any. Similarly, it can’t be attacked and damage can’t be dealt to it. You may activate only one loyalty ability of that permanent per turn. If it later becomes a creature and damage is dealt to it, that damage won’t remove any loyalty counters.
  • If Machine God’s Effigy somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another creature, it can’t become a copy of that creature. You may choose only a creature that’s already on the battlefield.
  • If the chosen creature is a token, Machine God’s Effigy copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created the token, plus the listed exceptions. Machine God’s Effigy is not a token, even when copying one.
  • If the chosen creature is copying something else, then Machine God’s Effigy enters the battlefield as whatever the chosen creature is copying (with the listed exceptions).
  • If the copied creature has {X} in its mana cost, X is 0.
  • Machine God’s Effigy will not copy any types (such as creature or enchantment) or non-artifact subtypes (such as Phyrexian or Elf) that creature had, but it will copy any supertypes, such as legendary, and artifact subtypes (such as Treasure or Vehicle). It also has the same name, so if you copy a legendary creature you control, you will need to choose one of them to put in your graveyard due to the legend rule.
  • The ability of Machine God’s Effigy doesn’t target the creature.

    Rules

  • If Mirage Mirror becomes a copy of a legendary permanent you control, you'll put one of them into your graveyard.
  • If Mirage Mirror becomes a copy of an Aura, it's put into its owner's graveyard unless it's somehow attached to an appropriate object or player already. If it becomes a copy of an Equipment and is attached to a creature, it'll become unattached when it becomes a non-Equipment artifact again.
  • If Mirage Mirror becomes a creature the same turn it enters the battlefield, you can't attack with it or use any of its {T} abilities (if it gains any) unless it has haste.
  • If Mirage Mirror copies a permanent that's copying something else, it will become whatever the target is copying.
  • If an effect begins to apply to Mirage Mirror before it becomes a copy of another permanent, that effect will continue to apply. For example, if Mirage Mirror is activated twice in response to itself targeting first Rampaging Hippo then Frilled Sandwalla, the ability it has while it's a copy of Frilled Sandwalla can be activated and its effect will continue to apply while Mirage Mirror is a copy of Rampaging Hippo.
  • If you activate Mirage Mirror's ability multiple times in a turn in response to itself, then each time one of those abilities resolves, it will overwrite whatever Mirage Mirror is copying. Mirage Mirror will wind up as a copy of the permanent targeted by the last ability to resolve. When the turn ends, all instances of the ability will wear off at the same time.
  • Mirage Mirror copies the printed values of the target permanent, plus any copy effects that have been applied to it. It won't copy counters on that permanent or effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on. Notably, it won't copy effects that made the target permanent become a creature.
  • Once Mirage Mirror's ability resolves, it no longer has that ability.

    Rules

  • As the token is created, it checks the printed values of the artifact it's copying, as well as any copy effects that have been applied to it.
  • Each time the ability triggers, you can pay {2} only one time to get one token.
  • If the artifact that caused Mirrorworks's ability to trigger has already left the battlefield by the time the ability resolves, you can still pay {2}. If you do, you'll still put a token onto the battlefield. That token has the copiable values of the characteristics of that nontoken artifact as it last existed on the battlefield.
  • The copiable values of the token's characteristics are the same as the copiable values of the characteristics of the artifact it's copying.

It doesn't copy whether that permanent is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any noncopy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.
  • If Phyrexian Metamorph copies a noncreature artifact, it is no longer a creature.

  • If the chosen creature is copying something else (for example, if the chosen creature is a Clone), then your Phyrexian Metamorph enters as whatever the chosen creature copied, except it's also an artifact.
  • If the chosen permanent has {X} in its mana cost (such as Protean Hydra), X is considered to be zero.
  • If the chosen permanent is a token, Phyrexian Metamorph copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put the token onto the battlefield, except it's also an artifact. Phyrexian Metamorph is not a token.
  • You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Phyrexian Metamorph simply enters as a 0/0 artifact creature and is put into its owner's graveyard as a state-based action (unless something else is raising its toughness).

  • Any "enters" abilities of the copied artifact will trigger when Sculpting Steel enters. Any "as enters" or "enters with" abilities of the chosen artifact will also work. For example, if Sculpting Steel copies an artifact creature with sunburst, the copy will get +1/+1 counters based on the number of different colors of mana used to pay Sculpting Steel's total cost. If Sculpting Steel copies a noncreature artifact with sunburst, the copy will get charge counters based on the number of different colors of mana used to pay Sculpting Steel's total cost.
  • If the chosen artifact is a token, your Sculpting Steel copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put it onto the battlefield. Your Sculpting Steel is not considered to be a token.
  • If the chosen artifact is copying something else (for example, if the chosen artifact is another Sculpting Steel), then your Sculpting Steel enters as whatever the chosen artifact copied.
  • Sculpting Steel doesn't copy whether the original artifact is tapped or untapped. It also doesn't copy any counters on that artifact, any Auras or Equipment attached to that artifact, or any effects that are currently affecting that artifact — you get exactly what's printed on the chosen card and nothing more. So if you copy an animated Chimeric Staff, for example, you get a normal, nonanimated Chimeric Staff.
  • You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Sculpting Steel stays on the battlefield as an artifact that doesn't do much of anything.
