"Find me cards equivalent to: Madcap Experiment"

Other red sorceries that cheat artifacts into play are very rare. Closest equivalents (mono-red, sorcery, similar effect):

  • Madcap Experiment (original)
  • Gamble (tutors, not cheat-in, but finds artifacts)
  • Trash for Treasure (sorcery, returns artifact from grave, needs a sac)
  • Indomitable Creativity (has red, can target artifacts/creatures to flip into artifacts, but is multi-color and exile-based)
  • Transmute Artifact (closest effect, but it's blue and a little different)

Closest true equivalents in mono-red don't exist, but Trash for Treasure and Indomitable Creativity are functionally closest. Most effects like this are either blue (Tinker) or multi-color.

  • All of the exiled cards are put onto the battlefield at the same time.
  • If a player controls no permanents destroyed this way, that player reveals no cards from their library and doesn't shuffle it.
  • If a player's library no longer contains an artifact or creature card when instructed to reveal cards, that player reveals the entire library, exiles no cards, and then shuffles it.
  • If an artifact or creature is targeted but not destroyed (perhaps because it gained indestructible or became an illegal target), it doesn't count as one of the artifacts or creatures destroyed this way. An artifact or creature that's destroyed but put into a zone other than a graveyard (for example, due to the effect of Rest in Peace) does count.
  • While revealing cards, a player stops as soon as they reveal a card that's an artifact or a creature (or both). That player doesn't choose one type.

  • Any abilities that trigger as the artifact enters the battlefield aren't put onto the stack until Madcap Experiment is done resolving.
  • If you don't reveal an artifact card, you'll randomize your library and be dealt damage equal to the number of cards in your library.
  • Once Madcap Experiment begins resolving, no player may take any actions other than those specified by Madcap Experiment until it's done resolving.
  • The number of cards revealed this way includes the artifact card you put onto the battlefield.

  • Additional mana spent to cover the differences in mana costs is not part of the mana cost of this spell. It is spent during spell resolution.
  • Because the "search" requires you to find a card with certain characteristics, you don't have to find the card if you don't want to.
  • If the chosen artifact costs less than or the same as the sacrificed artifact, you simply put it onto the battlefield without paying any additional costs.
  • The one from the library enters when the spell is resolved, and this does not count as the casting of an artifact.
  • You can't sacrifice more than one artifact to this spell.
  • The sacrifice of an artifact is an effect of the spell, not a cost, which means it happens as the spell resolves. If Transmute Artifact is countered, you do not have to sacrifice an artifact.
