"Find me cards equivalent to: Monk of the Open Hand"

Equivalent cards to Monk of the Open Hand (White creature, triggers on second spell each turn) include:
1. Glimmer of Genius (not a creature or similar trigger, but for rule example).
2. Leonin Lightscribe — White creature; whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery, creatures you control get +1/+1.
3. Luminarch Aspirant — White creature; at the beginning of combat, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control.
4. Novice Knight is similar in type but not in effect.

Closest equivalent is Luminarch Aspirant due to the repeated +1/+1 counter synergy, but there is no exact white creature with Elf Monk and the exact same trigger as Monk of the Open Hand.

Reason: The specific second spell each turn trigger is rare in white creatures. Most similar white creatures deal with +1/+1 counters per turn or spellcasting in general.

  • Energy counters are a kind of counter that a player may have. They're not associated with any specific permanents.
  • Energy counters aren't mana. They don't go away as steps, phases, and turns end, and effects that add mana "of any type" can't give you energy counters.
  • If a spell or ability with one or more targets states that you "may pay" some amount of {E}, and each permanent that it targets has become an illegal target, the spell or ability won't resolve. You can't pay any {E} even if you want to.
  • If an effect says you get one or more {E}, you get that many energy counters. To pay one or more {E}, you lose that many energy counters. You can't pay more energy counters than you have. Any effects that interact with counters a player gets, has, or loses can interact with energy counters.
  • Keep track of how many energy counters each player has. Potential ways to track this include writing theme down on paper or using dice, but any method that is clear and mutually agreeable is fine. (At higher levels of tournament play, dice may not be allowed for tracking counters that players have.)
  • Some spells and abilities that give you {E} may require targets. If each target chosen is an illegal target as that spell or ability tries to resolve, it won't resolve. You won't get any {E}.
  • Some triggered abilities state that you "may pay" a certain amount of {E}. You can't pay that amount multiple times to multiply the effect. You simply choose whether or not to pay that amount of {E} as the ability resolves.
  • Some triggered abilities that state that you "may pay" a certain amount of {E} describe an effect that happens "If you do." In that case, no player may take actions to try to stop the ability's effect after you make your choice. If the payment is followed by the phrase "When you do," then you'll choose any targets for that reflexive triggered ability and put it on the stack before players can take actions.
  • {E} is the energy symbol. It represents one energy counter.

    Rules

  • Each magecraft ability has a different effect, although they all have the same trigger condition, whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell.
  • For example, if you control Archmage Emeritus and cast an instant or sorcery spell, Archmage Emeritus’s magecraft ability will trigger and you will draw a card.
  • If an effect creates a copy of an instant or sorcery spell, this will also cause the magecraft ability to trigger.
  • If an effect creates multiple copies of an instant or sorcery spell, magecraft abilities trigger once for each copy created by the effect.
  • Some effects instruct you to copy an instant or sorcery card in a zone other than the stack. These copies do not cause magecraft abilities to trigger. However, most effects that do this also allow you to cast the copy, and casting the copy will cause magecraft abilities to trigger.

  • If Monk of the Open Hand is the second spell you cast in a turn, spells you cast after that point in the same turn will not cause the Flurry of Blows ability to trigger.
  • Monk of the Open Hand doesn't need to have been on the battlefield as the first spell was cast. For example, if Monk of the Open Hand is the first spell you cast, and then you cast another spell after the Monk resolved, that spell would cause the Flurry of Blows ability to trigger.
