"Find me cards equivalent to: Mornsong Aria"

Equivalent cards to Mornsong Aria (Legendary Enchantment, Black, library search or draw denial with life loss):
1. Chains of Mephistopheles — prevents card draw, causes discard/mill instead (Enchantment, Black).
2. Necropotence — skips draw, allows pay life for cards (Enchantment, Black).
3. Maralen of the Mornsong — each player loses 3 life, tutors a card instead of drawing (Legendary Creature, Black, most similar).

Reason: Few black enchantments outright replace draws with tutors and life loss; Maralen of the Mornsong is closest in all attributes but is a creature, not enchantment.

    Rules

  • Cards which are drawn as a cost are affected by this card because replacement effects can alter the payment of costs.
  • The effect is cumulative. If there are two of these on the battlefield, each of them will modify each draw (after the first one if during the draw step), and will cause the player to discard or to “mill” a card from their library. As they resolve in order, the player must discard if possible. Once the player fails to discard and instead “mills” a card, all further effects of additional Chains of Mephistopheles will not do anything. This is because the “mill” also replaces the draw effect and the player is no longer drawing a card. You handle them in order. Each one makes you discard first and then continue or else mill a card and lose the draw.
  • A player’s normal card draw on their turn is exempt from this effect. All other draws will be affected.
  • Here’s what happens when Chains of Mephistopheles replaces a player’s draw: — If that player has at least one card in their hand, they discard a card and then draws a card. — If that player’s hand is empty, they put the top card of their library into their graveyard. The player doesn’t draw a card at all.
  • If a spell or ability would cause a player to draw multiple cards, this is treated as a number of individual “draw one card” actions. Apply the effect of Chains of Mephistopheles to each one.

If a player would draw a card except the first one they draw in each of their draw steps, that player discards a card instead. If the player discards a card this way, they draw a card. If the player doesn'tdiscarda card this way, theymilla card.

    Rules

  • In a Two-Headed Giant game, Maralen’s triggered ability will trigger twice per draw step (once for each player on the active team). Maralen’s controller chooses the order to put the abilities on the stack.
  • Maralen prevents players from drawing cards for any reason, including as a cost, as an effect, and as a result of the “draw a card” turn-based action during the draw step.
  • The effect of the triggered ability is mandatory. The life loss isn’t a payment; you’ll lose 3 life even if you have 3 or less life left. Unless your library is empty, you must put a card from your library into your hand.
  • While Maralen is on the battlefield, a player can’t choose to draw cards (or choose to have another player draw cards) as a spell or ability resolves. For example, if you cast the Development side of Research // Development (“Put a 3/1 red Elemental creature token onto the battlefield unless any opponent lets you draw a card. Repeat this process two more times.”), you’ll put three Elemental tokens onto the battlefield because your opponents can’t “let you draw a card.”
  • While Maralen is on the battlefield, no player can lose the game due to being instructed to draw a card with an empty library.
  • While Maralen is on the battlefield, replacement effects that instruct a player to do something instead of drawing a card won’t work.

  • If an effect says to set a player's life total to a number that's higher than the player's current life total while Mornsong Aria is on the battlefield, the player's life total doesn't change.
  • Spells and abilities that cause players to draw cards or gain life still resolve while Mornsong Aria is on the battlefield. No player will draw cards or gain life, but any other effects of that spell or ability will still happen.

  • If a discarded card isn't put into your graveyard (due to an effect such as that of Obstinate Baloth) or leaves your graveyard (perhaps because another effect returned it to your hand), it won't be exiled.
  • If you discard a card with madness and wish to cast it, Necropotence's ability won't exile that card. If you don't wish to cast it, you choose whether it ends up exiled or in your graveyard.
  • Necropotence's last ability creates a delayed triggered ability that will put the exiled card into your hand. That ability still triggers even if Necropotence is removed from the battlefield before your end step.
  • You can't look at the cards exiled by the last ability while they're face down.

Skip your draw step. Whenever youdiscarda card, exile that card from your graveyard. Pay 1 life: Exile the top card of your library face down. Put that card into your hand at the beginning of your next end step.
