"Find me cards equivalent to: Necrologia"

Equivalent cards to Necrologia (color: Black, type: Instant, effect: pay X life, draw X cards):

  • Necrologia (itself)
  • Bitter Ordeal, Ad Nauseam, and Peer into the Abyss are closest, but none are Instants with exactly this effect and timing restriction.
  • Ad Nauseam (Instant, black): Reveal cards & lose life per CMC, but not X for X. Closest in speed/effect.

Reason: Necrologia is unique for being an instant with pay X life, draw X cards, at end step. Others have similar effects but are not exact matches. No other cards match every attribute.

  • Each time you put the revealed card into your hand and lose the appropriate amount of life, you decide whether to continue by revealing another card. You don't decide in advance how many cards to put into your hand this way.
  • If a card in a player's library has {X} in its mana cost, X is 0 for the purpose of determining its mana value.
  • You may continue to reveal cards with Ad Nauseam even if your life total has been reduced to 0 or less. If you continue, you will continue to lose life, dropping your life total into negative numbers. As soon as you stop, you'll lose the game as a state-based action.

  • The life lost is rounded up, not the remaining life total. For example, if the target player has 7 life, they lose 4 life and end up with 3. Similarly, the number of cards drawn is rounded up, not the number of cards remaining in the library.
  • To draw the cards, first the player determines how many cards to draw, then draws them. This event may be modified so that a different number of cards are actually drawn.
