  • If a spell or ability damages multiple things, divide up the damage before applying this effect. This means you can’t normally end up with an odd amount of damage on something.
  • If you have two of these on the battlefield, the damage is multiplied by 4.
  • The multiplied damage counts in all ways as if it came from the original source. Furnace of Rath is not the source.
  • The trample rules cause damage to be divided before it is doubled.
  • If multiple effects modify how damage will be dealt, the player who would be dealt damage or the controller of the creature that would be dealt damage chooses the order to apply the effects. For example, Mending Hands says, “Prevent the next 4 damage that would be dealt to any target this turn.” Suppose a spell would deal 5 damage to a player who has cast Mending Hands targeting themselves. That player can either (a) prevent 4 damage first and then let Furnace of Rath double the remaining 1 damage, taking 2 damage, or (b) double the damage to 10 and then prevent 4 damage, taking 6 damage.

If a source would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals double that damage to that permanent or player instead.

    Rules

  • Damage prevention shields don't have any effect. If a prevention effect has an additional effect, the additional effect will still work (if possible). Spells that create prevention effects can still be cast, and abilities that create prevention effects can still be activated.
  • Effects that replace an event with gaining life (like Words of Worship's effect does) will end up replacing the event with nothing.
  • Effects that replace or redirect damage without using the word "prevent" are not affected by Leyline of Punishment.
  • Effects that would replace gaining life with some other effect won't be able to do anything because it's impossible for players to gain life.
  • If a cost includes life gain (like Invigorate's alternative cost does), that cost can't be paid.
  • If a creature is dealt lethal damage, it can still regenerate. If it does, the damage marked on it will be removed from it.
  • If an effect says to set a player's life total to a certain number, and that number is higher than the player's current life total, that part of the effect won't do anything. (If the number is lower than the player's current life total, the effect will work as normal.)
  • Spells and abilities that would normally cause a player to gain life still resolve, but the life-gain part simply has no effect.
  • Static abilities that prevent damage (including protection abilities) don't do so. If they have additional effects that don't depend on the amount of damage prevented, those additional effects will still work. Such effects are applied only once per source of damage.
  • A player's "opening hand" is the hand of cards the player has after all players have taken mulligans. If players have any cards in hand that allow actions to be taken with them from a player's opening hand, the starting player takes all such actions first in any order, followed by each other player in turn order. Then the first turn begins.

    Foretell

    Rules

  • Because exiling a card with foretell from your hand is a special action, you can do so any time you have priority during your turn, including in response to spells and abilities. Once you announce you’re taking the action, no other player can respond by trying to remove the card from your hand.
  • Casting a foretold card from exile follows the timing rules for that card. If you foretell an instant card, you can cast it as soon as the next player’s turn. In most cases, if you foretell a card that isn’t an instant (or doesn’t have flash), you’ll have to wait until your next turn to cast it.
  • If Quakebringer is on the battlefield at the beginning of your upkeep, its ability will trigger even if it’s no longer a Giant and you don’t control another Giant.
  • If you’re casting a foretold card from exile for its foretell cost, you can’t choose to cast it for any other alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, those must be paid to cast the spell.
  • Quakebringer entering the battlefield won’t undo any life gained earlier in the turn.
