"Find me cards equivalent to: Riptide Mangler"

Equivalent cards to Riptide Mangler (blue creatures with a power-modifying ability) include:

  • Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar (blue, power-toughness changers or synergies, but not directly the same ability)
  • Shapesharer (blue, can copy another creature but as a copy)
  • Quicksilver Gargantuan (blue, becomes a copy but retains its own base power/toughness, not a base power-changer)

However, Riptide Mangler is quite unique in blue for indefinitely setting its base power to another creature’s power with an activated ability—very few blue creatures manipulate base power like this. Thus, there are no exact equivalents in blue, but the cards above offer somewhat similar copying/changing functionality.

    Rules

  • Any "enters" abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Quicksilver Gargantuan enters. Any "as [this creature] enters" or "[this creature] enters with" abilities of the chosen creature will also work.
  • Except for its power and toughness, Quicksilver Gargantuan copies exactly what was printed on the original creature and nothing more (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.
  • If Quicksilver Gargantuan is not a creature (for example, if it entered as a copy of an animated land), it will not have the characteristics of power or toughness at all, so it won't be 7/7. If it later becomes a creature, its power and toughness will be determined by the effect that causes it to become a creature; again, it won't be 7/7.
  • If Quicksilver Gargantuan somehow enters at the same time as another creature (due to Mass Polymorph or Liliana Vess's third ability, for example), Quicksilver Gargantuan can't become a copy of that creature. You may choose only a creature that's already on the battlefield.
  • If the chosen creature has {X} in its mana cost (such as Protean Hydra), X is considered to be zero.
  • If the chosen creature is a token, your Quicksilver Gargantuan copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put the token onto the battlefield, except for its power and toughness. Your Quicksilver Gargantuan is not a token.
  • If the chosen creature is copying something else (for example, if the chosen creature is a Clone), then your Quicksilver Gargantuan enters as whatever the chosen creature copied, except for its power and toughness.
  • You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Quicksilver Gargantuan simply enters as a 7/7 creature.
  • If the chosen creature has a characteristic-defining ability that sets its power and/or toughness, that ability will not be copied. For example, if Quicksilver Gargantuan copies a Nightmare, it will not gain the ability that sets its power and toughness to the number of Swamps you control. As such, it will remain a 7/7.

  • Effects that modify Riptide Mangler’s power, such as the effect of Giant Growth or Glorious Anthem, will apply to Riptide Mangler no matter when they started applying. The same is true for counters that affect Riptide Mangler’s power and effects that switch its power and toughness.
  • The activated ability overwrites all previous effects that set Riptide Mangler’s base power to specific a value (such as previous activations of the ability). Other effects that set its base power that start to apply after Riptide Mangler’s ability resolves will overwrite this effect.

    Changeling

    Rules

  • Effects that have already applied to the targeted Shapeshifter will continue to apply to it. For example, if Giant Growth had given it +3/+3 earlier in the turn, then this ability makes it a copy of Grizzly Bears, it will be a 5/5 Grizzly Bears.
  • If Shapesharer itself becomes a copy of another creature, it loses both changeling and its activated ability (unless it’s copying another creature with changeling and/or another Shapesharer, of course).
  • If the targeted Shapeshifter becomes a copy of a face-down creature, it will become a 2/2 creature with no name, creature type, abilities, mana cost, or color. It will not become face down and thus can’t be turned face up.
  • If the targeted Shapeshifter copies a creature that’s copying a creature, it will become whatever the chosen creature is copying.
  • The copy effect doesn’t wear off until just before your next untap step (even if an effect will cause that untap step to be skipped).
  • The targeted Shapeshifter copies the printed values of the targeted creature, plus any copy effects that have been applied to it. It won’t copy counters on that creature. It won’t copy effects that have changed the creature’s power, toughness, types, color, and so on.
  • This ability can cause a creature to become a copy of itself. This will usually have no visible effect.
  • If either target becomes an illegal target, the ability will resolve but have no effect.
