  • The cost reduction applies only to generic mana in the cost of spells of the chosen type you cast.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying (such as a flashback cost), add any cost increases (such as kicker costs), then apply any cost reductions (such as that of Cloud Key's ability). The mana value of the spell is determined by only its mana cost, no matter what the total cost to cast that spell was.

  • If an artifact spell has {X} in its mana cost, choose the value for X first, and then reduce the cost by {1}. For example, an artifact that costs {X} with X chosen as 4 costs {3} to cast if you control Foundry Inspector.
  • Once a player has announced an artifact spell, no player may take actions to try to remove Foundry Inspector from the battlefield before that spell's cost is locked in.

    Rules

  • If you don't put the top card of your library into your hand, you put it back on top of your library without revealing it. You'll draw it in that turn's draw step.
  • If you somehow control a Herald's Horn with no chosen creature type, no spells will cost less to cast, not even creature spells with no creature type. You'll be able to look at the top card of your library at the beginning of each of your upkeeps, but you can never put it into your hand this way, even if it's a creature card with no creature type.
  • The effect of Herald's Horn reduces only generic mana in a spell's cost. If that cost has no generic mana, the cost isn't reduced.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.
  • You can't choose multiple creature types, such as "Cat Warrior." A Cat Warrior is both a Cat and a Warrior. It's affected by anything that affects either type and unaffected by things that affect non-Cat or non-Warrior creatures.
  • You must choose an existing creature type, such as Vampire or Cat. Card types such as "artifact" can't be chosen.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • Artifact, battle, creature, enchantment, instant, kindred, planeswalker, and sorcery are card types.
  • Semblance Anvil can reduce the amount you pay for a spell's cost that includes {X}. For example, Blaze is a sorcery that costs {X}{R}. If the card exiled with Semblance Anvil is a sorcery, and you want to cast Blaze with X equal to 5, you'll have to pay only {3}{R}. This is true even if the ability states that {X} must be paid with a certain color of mana (as Drain Life does).
  • Semblance Anvil takes the total cost to cast a spell into account, not just its mana cost. This includes additional costs (such as kicker) and alternative costs (such as evoke). It also includes cost increases from other sources (such as Lodestone Golem's ability).
  • Semblance Anvil won't affect the part of a spell's cost represented by colored mana symbols. For example, a spell that normally costs {1}{U} to cast would cost {U} if it shared a card type with the exiled card.
  • Semblance Anvil's cost reduction effect is mandatory.
  • Spells you cast that share multiple card types with the exiled card still cost just {2} less to cast. They don't get a greater cost reduction.

    Rules

  • A colorless spell whose mana cost is {2} or {1} will cost {0} to cast.
  • A land normally has no color, even if it can produce one or more colors of mana.
  • If an effect such as that of Doubling Season causes Ugin to create two Spirit tokens, you still only exile one card from your library. You'll put that card into your hand the first time that either of the tokens leaves the battlefield.
  • If the Spirit leaves the battlefield for any reason, you'll put the exiled card into your hand, even if Ugin left the battlefield before that happened.
  • If you've activated Ugin's ability multiple times, you must keep track of which exiled card belongs to each Spirit token.
  • Once you look at the exiled face-down card once, you may look at it again any time you wish. If another player gains control of the Spirit token, that player can't look at the exiled card.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying, add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions (such as that of Ugin). The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.
