"Find me cards equivalent to: Shifty Doppelganger"

Equivalent cards to Shifty Doppelganger (blue, shapeshifter, sneak-in effect) are very limited. The closest in blue is:

  • Quicksilver Elemental (can copy abilities, but not exactly the same effect).
  • Dimir Doppelganger (can exile a creature and become a copy, different method).
  • Vesuvan Shapeshifter (clone effect, no sneak-in).
  • Mystic Reflection (affects copying, not sneak-in).

Note: No blue creature matches Shifty Doppelganger exactly; most sneak-in/sacrifice creatures are red like Sneak Attack. Shifty Doppelganger is unique for blue.

  • A permanent's ability that refers to cards the creature exiled (such as Sisters of Stone Death's third ability) only affects cards exiled by other abilities intrinsic to that permanent (such as Sisters of Stone Death's second ability). Suppose that (a) Dimir Doppelganger copies Arc-Slogger, (b) its "deal 2 damage" ability is activated, and then (c) it copies Sisters of Stone Death. Creatures exiled by Arc-Slogger's ability can't be returned with Sisters of Stone Death's ability.
  • This creature becomes an exact copy of a copied card, except that it also has Dimir Doppelganger's activated ability. If it becomes a copy of a different creature card, the new copy will overwrite the old copy.

    Foretell

    Abilities/Keywords

    Foretell

    Rules

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when the permanents enter the battlefield. Any “as [this permanent] enters the battlefield” or “[this permanent] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the target creature will also work.
  • Because exiling a card with foretell from your hand is a special action, you can do so any time you have priority during your turn, including in response to spells and abilities. Once you announce you’re taking the action, no other player can respond by trying to remove the card from your hand.
  • Casting a foretold card from exile follows the timing rules for that card. If you foretell an instant card, you can cast it as soon as the next player’s turn. In most cases, if you foretell a card that isn’t an instant (or doesn’t have flash), you’ll have to wait until your next turn to cast it.
  • If Mystic Reflection resolves, but the target creature leaves the battlefield before the next time one or more creatures or planeswalkers enter the battlefield, use the copiable values of the target creature as it last existed on the battlefield to determine what the entering permanents copy.
  • If a creature such as Clone is entering the battlefield under your control, there will be two copy effects to apply: the creature’s own and Mystic Reflection’s. No matter which order these effects are applied in, the creature will be a copy of the target creature when it enters the battlefield.
  • If more than one Mystic Reflection applies to the same permanent entering the battlefield, the controller of that permanent chooses the order of those copy effects. The copy effect they apply last will determine which creature the entering permanent copies.
  • If you’re casting a foretold card from exile for its foretell cost, you can’t choose to cast it for any other alternative costs. You can, however, pay additional costs, such as kicker costs. If the card has any mandatory additional costs, those must be paid to cast the spell.
  • In most cases, the copiable values of the target creature won’t change between Mystic Reflection resolving and the next time one or more creatures or planeswalkers enter the battlefield. In some unusual cases, they might, and if they do, use the copiable values of the creature at the time the permanents enter the battlefield.
  • Other enters-the-battlefield replacement abilities printed on the creatures entering the battlefield won’t be applied because those permanents will already be copies of the target creature at that point (and therefore they won’t have those abilities). External abilities may still affect how those permanents enter the battlefield. For example, if another effect says, “Creatures enter the battlefield tapped,” the permanents will enter as tapped copies of the target creature.
  • Replacement effects that modify how a creature enters the battlefield are applied in the following order: first, control-changing effects (such as Gather Specimens), then copy effects (such as the abilities of Mystic Reflection and Clone), then all other effects.
  • The entering permanents don’t copy whether the target creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it, whether it has any Auras and/or Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on.

  • If you make two copies of an ability that can be activated once a turn, you can activate each of them once a turn.
  • If you use this card to gain Wall of Deceit's ability to turn itself face down, you will not be able to turn this card face up because it will not have the Morph ability.
  • You can activate the ability more than once, collecting abilities from multiple creatures (or the same creature more than once).
  • Quicksilver Elemental can gain the activated abilities of any creature on the battlefield that you can target with its ability, even if you don't control that creature.
  • Quicksilver Elemental gains only activated abilities. It doesn't gain keyword abilities (unless those keyword abilities are activated), triggered abilities, or static abilities.
  • Quicksilver Elemental has a rather tricky interaction with Leonin Bola. You can actually unattach your opponent's Bola as part of the cost of activating the Elemental-copied ability.
  • The granted abilities effectively use "this permanent," rather than "[that card's name]," so you treat the abilities as if they were printed on Quicksilver Elemental. For example, you treat an ability that says "Sacrifice a creature: Nantuko Husk gets +2/+2 until end of turn" as "Sacrifice a creature: Quicksilver Elemental gets +2/+2 until end of turn."
  • Activated abilities contain a colon. They're generally written "[Cost]: [Effect]." Some keywords are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder text.

  • Putting the card onto the battlefield is optional. When the ability resolves, you can choose not to.
  • This card has received errata such that putting a creature card from your hand onto the battlefield is now optional. This means you no longer need a third-party to verify that you don't have any creature cards in your hand if you don't put something onto the battlefield.

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger if Vesuvan Shapeshifter is entering the battlefield. Any "As [this creature] enters the battlefield" or "[This creature] enters the battlefield with" abilities of the copied creature will also work. If a Vesuvan Shapeshifter becomes a copy of a creature after it's already on the battlefield, these abilities won't apply as Vesuvan Shapeshifter becomes a copy since it's not entering the battlefield; instead, any "As [this creature] is turned face up" or "When [this creature] is turned face up" abilities will apply.
  • If a copied creature has {X} in its mana cost, X is 0.
  • If a copied creature is a token that isn't a copy of something else, Vesuvan Shapeshifter copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that created it. Vesuvan Shapeshifter isn't a token in this case.
  • If a copied creature is copying something else, Vesuvan Shapeshifter uses the copiable values of that creature. In most cases, Vesuvan Shapeshifter will copy whatever that creature is copying.
  • If something copies Vesuvan Shapeshifter, the new copy will also have the triggered ability to turn it face down. However, once face-down, it won't have Vesuvan Shapeshifter's morph ability, so it can't be turned face up unless whatever it's copying also has a morph ability.
  • Vesuvan Shapeshifter copies exactly what is printed on the creature it's copying and nothing else (unless it's copying a creature that's copying something else or that's a token; see below). It doesn't copy whether a creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or Auras and/or Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that changed its power, toughness, types, color, and so on. Most notably, if it copies a creature that's not normally a creature, it won't be a creature.
