  • An "attacking creature" is one that has been declared as an attacker this combat, or one that was put onto the battlefield attacking this combat. Unless that creature leaves combat, it continues to be an attacking creature through the end of combat step, even if the player it was attacking has left the game, or the planeswalker it was attacking has left combat. There's no such thing as an attacking creature outside of the combat phase.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Flash Flying Surveil

    Rules

  • Dream Eater's reflexive triggered ability triggers even if you have fewer than four cards in your library to surveil.
  • Dream Eater's triggered ability goes on the stack without a target. While that ability is resolving, after you've surveilled, the reflexive triggered ability triggers and you pick a target nonland permanent to be returned to its owner's hand. This is different from effects that say "If you do . . ." in that you choose the target after having surveilled.
  • When you surveil, you may put all the cards you look at back on top of your library, you may put all of those cards into your graveyard, or you may put some of those cards on top and the rest of them into your graveyard.
  • You perform the actions stated on a card in sequence. For some spells and abilities, you'll surveil last. For others, you'll surveil and then perform other actions.

Flash Flying When this creature enters, surveil 4. When you do, you may return target nonland permanent an opponent controls to its owner's hand. (To surveil 4, look at the top four cards of your library, then put any number of them into your graveyard and the rest on top of your library in any order.)

    Flash Flying

    Rules

  • After you pay the {1}{U} cost one or more times, a second ability triggers and you choose the targets for it. Players may respond to the new ability at that point. As that ability resolves, Spectral Adversary gets its +1/+1 counters and the target permanents phase out.
  • An attacking or blocking creature that phases out is removed from combat.
  • Any continuous effects with a "for as long as" duration ignore phased-out objects. If ignoring those objects causes the effect's conditions to no longer be met, the duration will expire. For example, phasing out Mind Flayer will cause the duration of its continuous effect ("for as long as you control Mind Flayer") to expire.
  • As a permanent phases out, Auras and Equipment attached to it also phase out at the same time. Those Auras and Equipment will phase in at the same time that permanent does, and they'll phase in still attached to that permanent.
  • Choices made for permanents as they entered the battlefield are remembered when they phase in.
  • If an opponent gains control of one of your permanents, that permanent phases out, and the duration of the control-change effect expires before it phases back in, that permanent phases in under your control as that opponent's next untap step begins. If they leave the game before their next untap step, it phases in as the next untap step begins after their turn would have begun.
  • Permanents phase back in during their controller's untap step, immediately before that player untaps their permanents. Creatures that phase in this way are able to attack and pay a cost of {T} during that turn. If a permanent had counters on it when it phased out, it will have those counters when it phases back in.
  • Permanents that are phased out are treated as though they don't exist. They can't be the target of spells or abilities, their static abilities have no effect on the game, their triggered abilities can't trigger, they can't attack or block, and so on.
  • Phasing out doesn't cause any "leaves the battlefield" abilities to trigger. Similarly, phasing in won't cause any "enters the battlefield" abilities to trigger.

    Rules

  • Any enters-the-battlefield abilities of the copied creature will trigger when Stunt Double enters the battlefield. Any “as [this creature] enters the battlefield” or “[this creature] enters the battlefield with” abilities of the chosen creature will also work.
  • If Stunt Double somehow enters the battlefield at the same time as another creature, it can’t become a copy of that creature. You may choose only a creature that’s already on the battlefield.
  • If the chosen creature is a token, Stunt Double copies the original characteristics of that token as stated by the effect that put the token onto the battlefield. Stunt Double isn’t a token.
  • If the chosen creature is copying something else (for example, if the chosen creature is another Stunt Double), then Stunt Double enters the battlefield as whatever the chosen creature copied.
  • If the copied creature has {X} in its mana cost, that X is considered to be 0.
  • Stunt Double copies exactly what was printed on the original creature (unless that creature is copying something else or is a token; see below). It doesn’t copy whether that creature is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or any Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on.
  • You can choose not to copy anything. In that case, Stunt Double enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature, and is put into the graveyard immediately (unless something else is raising its toughness).

  • If Venser's triggered ability targets a spell cast with flashback, that spell will be exiled instead of returning to its owner's hand.
  • If a copy of a spell is returned to its owner's hand, it's moved there, then it will cease to exist as a state-based action. It can't be recast.
  • If a spell is returned to its owner's hand, it's removed from the stack and thus will not resolve. The spell isn't countered; it just no longer exists. This works against a spell that can't be countered.
