AI 🤖 Find me cards equivalent to: Sustaining Spirit

Equivalent cards to Sustaining Spirit (white, damage prevention/limitation):
1. Intervention Pact – Prevents all damage from a source that would kill you.
2. Spirit of the Hearth – You have protection from red, preventing a lot of damage.
3. Pariah – Redirects damage from you to an enchanted creature.
4. Platinum Angel – You can’t lose the game (artifact, colorless, but common in similar lists).
5. Lightmine Field – Damages attacking creatures, indirectly protecting you.

Reason: Closest equivalence is rare; I chose cards that either prevent you from dying, greatly limit the damage you take, or redirect damage. No other creature works exactly like Sustaining Spirit.

  • For example: If a creature attacks but is removed from combat before Lightmine Field’s ability resolves (because it would be destroyed and regenerates, perhaps), that creature is dealt damage by Lightmine Field but isn’t counted when determining the amount of damage. On the other hand, if a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking (due to Preeminent Captain’s ability, perhaps), it isn’t dealt damage by Lightmine Field, but it is counted when determining the amount of damage.
  • How much damage each of those creatures is dealt is based how many creatures are attacking at the time the ability resolves.
  • Lightmine Field’s ability triggers when any creatures attack, including your own.
  • Which creatures are dealt damage is based on which creatures were declared as attackers during the declare attackers step.

    Rules

  • If you control multiple Pariahs enchanting different creatures, you choose which redirection effect to apply. You can't divide damage dealt by one source or combat damage dealt by multiple creatures simultaneously. For example, if a spell would deal 6 damage to you and you control multiple Pariahs, you may have that 6 damage dealt to either of the enchanted creatures instead, but you can't choose to have 3 damage dealt to each one.
  • If you would be dealt combat damage, the damage dealt to the enchanted creature instead is still combat damage.

    Rules

  • Effects that say the game is a draw, such as the _Legends_(TM) card Divine Intervention, are not affected by Platinum Angel. They'll still work.
  • You can concede a game while Platinum Angel on the battlefield. A concession causes you to leave the game, which then causes you to lose the game (Once you concede, you no longer control a Platinum Angel, so its ability can't prevent you from losing the game).
  • If you control Platinum Angel in a Two-Headed Giant game, your team can't lose the game and the opposing team can't win the game.
  • No game effect can cause you to lose the game or cause any opponent to win the game while you control Platinum Angel. It doesn't matter whether you have 0 or less life, you're forced to draw a card while your library is empty, you have ten or more poison counters, you're dealt combat damage by Phage the Untouchable, your opponent has Mortal Combat with twenty or more creature cards in their graveyard, or so on. You keep playing.
  • Other circumstances can still cause you to lose the game, however. You will lose a game if you concede, if you're penalized with a Game Loss or a Match Loss during a sanctioned tournament due to a DCI rules infraction, or if your _Magic Online_(R) game clock runs out of time.

    Abilities/Keywords

    Rules

  • Does not affect damage if you are already at zero or negative life. You still take it all.
  • If an effect asks you to pay life, you can’t pay more life than you have.
  • Paying cumulative upkeep is always optional. If it’s not paid, the permanent with cumulative upkeep is sacrificed. Partial payments of the total cumulative upkeep cost can’t be made. For example, if a permanent with “cumulative upkeep {1}” has three age counters on it when its cumulative upkeep ability triggers, it gets another age counter and then its controller chooses to either pay {4} or sacrifice the permanent.
  • Sustaining Spirit won’t prevent you from losing the game if your life total is 0 or less or some other effect causes you to lose the game.
  • The ability doesn’t change how much damage is dealt; it just changes how much life that damage makes you lose. An effect such as Spirit Link will see the full amount of damage being dealt.
  • The second ability applies only if your life total is being reduced by damage. Other effects or costs (such as “lose 1 life” or “pay 1 life”) can reduce your life total below 1 as normal.
  • The second ability is not a prevention effect. It stops unpreventable damage from reducing your life total below 1.
