"Find me cards equivalent to: Tainted Aether"

Equivalent cards (black, enchantment, similar effect):

  • Tainted Aether (your original card)
  • Pox (forces sacrifice of creatures, lands, but single use, not enchantment)
  • Desecration Plague (not black or enchantment)
  • Grave Pact (enchantment, forces sacrifice when your creature dies)
  • Dictate of Erebos (enchantment, similar to Grave Pact)
  • Attrition (enchantment, lets you sacrifice to destroy)

Closest are Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos, but none exactly replicate Tainted Aether’s global entry trigger.
Reason: It's a unique effect, but Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos are popular black alternatives for forced sacrifice.

  • If multiple creatures you control die at the same time, Dictate of Erebos's triggered ability will trigger that many times.
  • If you and an opponent each control a Dictate of Erebos and a creature dies, a chain reaction happens. First the ability of one player's Dictate of Erebos will trigger, causing each opponent to sacrifice a creature. That sacrifice causes the ability of the other player's Dictate of Erebos to trigger, and so on.
  • If you control more than one Dictate of Erebos and a creature you control dies, each of the triggered abilities will trigger. Each opponent will sacrifice a creature each time one of those abilities resolves.
  • None of the opponents are targeted. An opponent with hexproof would still sacrifice a creature.
  • When the triggered ability resolves, first the player whose turn it is (if that player is an opponent) chooses which creature they will sacrifice, then each other opponent in turn order does the same, then all chosen creatures are sacrificed at the same time.

  • In a Two-Headed Giant game, when a creature you control dies, Grave Pact's triggered ability will cause each other player, including your teammate, to sacrifice a creature. Grave Pact's ability won't trigger when a creature your teammate controls dies.

  • Each part of Pox's effect is processed separately. For each part, first the player whose turn it is makes all necessary choices (such as which cards to discard), then each other player in turn order chooses, then the actions happen at the same time. Then Pox's effect moves to the next stage.
  • The losses, discards, and sacrifices are rounded up. For example, if you have 5 life, you'll lose 2 life, leaving you at 3 life. (Five divided by three is one and two-thirds. Rounding that up to the nearest whole number gives you two.)
  • The number you need to lose, discard, or sacrifice isn't calculated until it's time to perform that part of the effect. For example, if your opponent casts Pox and you discard Dodecapod as part of Pox's discard effect, Dodecapod will be put onto the battlefield instead of into your graveyard. Then, when determining how many creatures you need to sacrifice, the Dodecapod is taken into account.
