"Find me cards equivalent to: Tariff"

Closest equivalents to Tariff (single-white sorceries, mass/single creature removal with choice or payment mechanics):
1. Retribution of the Meek: Sorcery, W, destroys all creatures with power 4 or greater.

  • Similar color, sorcery, sweeps big creatures.
    2. Winds of Abandon: Sorcery, 1W, exiles target creature you don’t control (overload for mass removal).
  • Similar feel, can be a one-sided board wipe.
    3. Fateful Absence: Instant, 1W, destroys target creature/planeswalker (not exactly, but efficient and white).
  • Not a sorcery, but in the spirit of removal.

No card is an exact functional equivalent; Tariff is unique for forcing sacrifice unless mana is paid, but the above are closest white sorceries for creature removal.

  • The choice of creatures is made on resolution and not on announcement.
  • You can use mana abilities during the resolution of this spell if the player decides to pay the mana cost.
  • You choose whether to pay or not on resolution. If not, then you sacrifice the creature. You can choose to not pay if you control no creatures on resolution.
  • Although Tariff checks the mana value of the creatures on the battlefield, you need to pay the creature's actual mana cost (including color) to keep it on the battlefield.
  • First the active player identifies the creature they control with the highest mana cost (and chooses one if there's a tie) and chooses whether to sacrifice it or pay mana. Then each other player in turn order does the same. All creatures sacrificed this way are sacrificed at the same time.

    Overload

    Rules

  • If a creature is exiled but ends up in another zone, it's still a "creature exiled this way" for Winds of Abandon.
  • Because a spell with overload doesn't target when its overload cost is paid, it may affect permanents with hexproof or with protection from the appropriate color.
  • If you are instructed to cast a spell with overload "without paying its mana cost," you can't choose to pay its overload cost instead.
  • If you don't pay the overload cost of a spell with overload, that spell will have a single target. If you pay the overload cost, the spell won't have any targets.
  • To determine the total cost of a spell, start with the mana cost or alternative cost you're paying (such as an overload cost), add any cost increases, then apply any cost reductions. The mana value of the spell remains unchanged, no matter what the total cost to cast it was.

Those players put those cards onto the battlefield tapped, thenshuffle Overload (You may cast this spell for its overload cost. If you do, change "target" in its text to "each.")
