  • A permanent with more than one type may be chosen as either of the types or both. For example, an artifact creature may be chosen as the artifact, the creature, or both. Choosing the same permanent twice this way has the same result as choosing it once.
  • Cataclysmic Gearhulk will be sacrificed to its own ability if you don't choose it as your artifact or your creature.
  • First the player whose turn it is chooses permanents they control, then each other player in turn order does the same. Each player will know the choices made by players who chose before them. All of the unchosen nonland permanents are then sacrificed simultaneously.
  • If you don't control any permanents of one of the types, you'll still choose the permanents of the types you do control.
  • Lands can't be chosen and won't be sacrificed, even if they have other types (such as an artifact land).

  • As Slaughter the Strong resolves, first the player whose turn it is chooses which creatures will be spared, then each other player in turn order does the same knowing the choices made before them. Then all the creatures not chosen are sacrificed simultaneously.
  • If a creature's power is somehow less than 0, it subtracts from the total power of the other creatures its controller chooses. This can cause creatures with power 5 or greater to survive.
  • Slaughter the Strong has each player choose any number of creatures and then checks that the total power of creatures each player chose this way is 4 or less. For example, you could save two 2/2 creatures, or a 1/1 and a 3/3 creature, but not all four of those creatures.

  • The choice of creatures is made on resolution and not on announcement.
  • You can use mana abilities during the resolution of this spell if the player decides to pay the mana cost.
  • You choose whether to pay or not on resolution. If not, then you sacrifice the creature. You can choose to not pay if you control no creatures on resolution.
  • Although Tariff checks the mana value of the creatures on the battlefield, you need to pay the creature's actual mana cost (including color) to keep it on the battlefield.
  • First the active player identifies the creature they control with the highest mana cost (and chooses one if there's a tie) and chooses whether to sacrifice it or pay mana. Then each other player in turn order does the same. All creatures sacrificed this way are sacrificed at the same time.
