"Find me cards equivalent to: Tivash, Gloom Summoner"

Cards similar to Tivash, Gloom Summoner (black, cares about life gain/loss, makes tokens) include:

  • K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth – cares about paying life, not life gain, but strong synergy.
  • Desecrated Tomb – makes tokens when things leave your graveyard, not exactly life, but synergy in black token decks.
  • Crested Sunmare (white, not black) – makes tokens off life gain, but is not black.

There are very few legendary black creatures that specifically combine life gain and token making like Tivash. The most direct equivalents in black are limited, but Tivash, Gloom Summoner remains unique in its exact function.

    Rules

  • Crested Sunmare’s triggered ability cares only whether you gained life in the turn, even if Crested Sunmare wasn’t on the battlefield when that happened. It doesn’t care how much you gained, whether you also lost life, or even whether you lost more life than you gained.
  • Crested Sunmare’s triggered ability won’t trigger unless you’ve gained life in the turn before the end step began. It can’t be satisfied by another triggered ability causing you to gain life during that end step.
  • If a creature has been dealt damage, that damage remains marked on it until the cleanup step. If another Horse you control has been dealt lethal damage, and later in the turn Crested Sunmare leaves the battlefield, that Horse will be destroyed.

  • If a cost contains a mana symbol that may be paid in multiple ways, such as {B/R}, {B/P}, or {2/B}, you choose how you'll pay it before you do so. If you choose to pay {B} this way, K'rrik's ability allows you to pay life rather than pay that mana.
  • K'rrik's ability doesn't modify or reduce costs you pay. It changes only how you may pay those costs.
  • K'rrik's last ability resolves before the spell that caused it to trigger. It resolves even if that spell is countered.
  • You can't pay 2 life to pay for generic mana in costs you pay, even if an effect says that you must spend black mana to pay that generic mana.
  • A Phyrexian mana symbol contributes 1 toward the mana value of a card, even if life is paid for it. Specifically, K'rrik's mana value is always 7.
  • K'rrik's ability lets you pay 2 life for {B} in any cost you pay, including the mana costs of spells, activation costs, and even costs for special actions (such as morph). Any time you pay mana, that's a cost.

  • Tivash’s ability counts the total amount of life gained without considering any life you lost during that turn. For example, if you lost 3 life and gained 4 life earlier in the turn, you may pay 4 life to create a 4/4 Demon.
  • You can’t pay less life than the amount of life you gained to create a smaller but less harmful Demon.
  • You need to gain life before the end step begins for the last ability to trigger.
