"Find me cards equivalent to: Vexing Bauble"

Equivalent cards to Vexing Bauble (artifact, colorless, similar function):
1. Chalice of the Void — Counters spells of chosen cost (zero-mana spells if X=0).
2. Null Rod — Shuts down activated abilities of artifacts (not exactly the same, but disrupts free cast artifacts).
3. Grafdigger’s Cage — Prevents casting from graveyards/library (often counters free spells from those zones).
4. Torpor Orb — Prevents creature ETB triggers (different, but used to stop unfair/freely-cast effects).

Reason: Vexing Bauble specifically counters no-mana spells, and these cards all interact disruptively with spells cast for free or without mana, and are colorless artifacts.

  • A mana cost of {X}{X} means that you pay twice X. For example, if you want X to be 3, you pay {6} to cast Chalice of the Void.
  • Chalice of the Void has to be on the battlefield at the end of casting a spell for the ability to trigger. If you sacrifice Chalice of the Void as a cost to cast a spell, its ability can't trigger. However, if it leaves the battlefield once its ability has triggered, that ability will still counter the spell.
  • If there are zero charge counters on Chalice of the Void, it counters each spell with a mana value of 0. This includes face-down creature spells cast with morph's alternative cost.
  • The number of charge counters on Chalice of the Void matters only at the time the spell is cast. Changing the number of charge counters on Chalice of the Void after a spell has been cast won't change whether the ability triggers or counters the spell.

    Rules

  • Abilities that apply "as [this creature] enters the battlefield," including many abilities that ask a creature's controller to choose a color or creature type, are unaffected.
  • If Torpor Orb and a creature enter the battlefield at the same time, that creature entering the battlefield won't cause triggered abilities to trigger.
  • Look at the permanent as it exists on the battlefield, taking into account continuous effects, to determine whether any triggered abilities will trigger. For example, if you control March of the Machines, which says, in part, "Each noncreature artifact is an artifact creature," each artifact will be a creature at the time it enters the battlefield and will not cause triggered abilities to trigger.
  • Replacement effects are unaffected by Torpor Orb's ability. For example, a creature that enters the battlefield with one +1/+1 counter on it will still receive a +1/+1 counter.
  • The trigger event doesn't have to specify "creatures" entering the battlefield. For example, Captain Storm, Cosmium Raider from the Lost Caverns of Ixalan release has an ability that says "Whenever an artifact enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on target Pirate you control." If an artifact creature enters the battlefield under your control, that ability won't trigger. If a noncreature artifact enters the battlefield under your control, the ability will trigger.
  • Torpor Orb stops a creature's own enters-the-battlefield triggered abilities as well as other triggered abilities that would trigger when a creature enters the battlefield.
  • Triggered abilities use the word "when," "whenever," or "at." They're often written as "[Trigger condition], [effect]." Some keyword abilities are triggered abilities and will have "when," "whenever," or "at the beginning of" in their reminder text.

  • If a spell is cast with an alternative cost that includes mana (such as flashback), Vexing Bauble's first ability won't trigger and won't counter that spell. Similarly, if a spell is cast without paying its mana cost, but the player did pay mana for additional costs such as from kicker or from Thorn of Amethyst, Vexing Bauble's first ability won't trigger and won't counter that spell.
  • Players may cast spells that they know Vexing Bauble will counter. Any abilities that trigger when spells are cast will still trigger and resolve if appropriate, and any effects that count how many spells are cast will still count those spells if appropriate.
