"Find me cards equivalent to: Makeshift Binding"

Equivalent cards (White, Enchantment, exile a creature until it leaves, with some bonus):

  • Makeshift Binding
  • Banishing Light – Exiles any nonland permanent.
  • Oblivion Ring – Exiles any nonland permanent.
  • Journey to Nowhere – Exiles only creatures (no life gain).
  • Declaration in Stone – Exiles creatures, gives opponent a Clue.
  • Intercessor's Arrest – Doesn't exile, but similar control (not exiling).
  • Seal Away – Exiles a tapped creature (Flash).

Reason: These are all white enchantments that exile creatures on entering, closely matching Makeshift Binding. Only Journey to Nowhere is nearly identical, but without the life gain. No exact life gain equivalent exists, making Makeshift Binding unique for this effect.

  • Auras attached to the exiled permanent will be put into their owners’ graveyards. Any Equipment will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled permanent will cease to exist. When the card returns to the battlefield, it will be a new object with no connection to the card that was exiled.
  • If Banishing Light leaves the battlefield before its triggered ability resolves, the target permanent won’t be exiled.
  • If a token is exiled this way, it will cease to exist and won’t return to the battlefield.
  • If an Aura is exiled this way, its owner chooses what it will enchant as it returns to the battlefield. An Aura put onto the battlefield this way doesn’t target anything (so it could be attached to a permanent an opponent controls with hexproof, for example), but the Aura’s enchant ability restricts what it can be attached to. If the Aura can’t legally be attached to anything, it remains in exile for the rest of the game.

    Rules

  • A face-down creature, such as one cast with a megamorph ability from the Dragons of Tarkir set, has no name and can't share a name with any other creatures.
  • Clue is an artifact type. Even though it appears on some cards with other permanent types, it's never a creature type, a land type, or anything but an artifact type.
  • Declaration in Stone has only one target. The other creatures with that name aren't targeted. For example, a creature with hexproof will be exiled if it has the same name as the target creature.
  • If an effect refers to a Clue, it means any Clue artifact, not just a Clue artifact token. For example, you can sacrifice Wrench to pay for Alquist Proft, Master Sleuth's activated ability.
  • If the target creature is an illegal target when Declaration in Stone tries to resolve, it won't resolve and none of its effects will happen. No creatures will be exiled, including those with the same name as the target.
  • It's possible to have a creature and a noncreature permanent with the same name, such as two copies of the same land, one of which has become a land creature. Only creatures with that name are exiled by Declaration in Stone.
  • You can't sacrifice a Clue to pay multiple costs. For example, you can't sacrifice a Clue token to activate its own ability and also to activate Alquist Proft, Master Sleuth's ability.
  • Unless a token is a copy of another permanent or was explicitly given a name by the effect that created it, its name is the subtypes it was given when it was created plus the word "Token." For example, if an effect creates a 1/1 Soldier creature token, that token is named "Soldier Token."

  • A creature that “can't crew Vehicles” can't be tapped to pay the crew cost of a Vehicle.
  • Activated abilities contain a colon and appear in the form “[Cost]: [Effect].” Some keywords (such as equip) are activated abilities and will have colons in their reminder texts. Loyalty abilities of planeswalkers are also activated abilities.
  • Intercessor's Arrest doesn't stop static abilities from affecting the game, and it doesn't stop triggered abilities from triggering. It also doesn't stop mana abilities from being activated. Most activated abilities that produce mana as they resolve are mana abilities.

    Rules

  • If Oblivion Ring leaves the battlefield before its first ability has resolved, its second ability will trigger and do nothing. Then its first ability will resolve and exile the targeted nonland permanent forever.
  • If there are no nonland permanents on the battlefield other than an Oblivion Ring, and the card it exiled was another Oblivion Ring, casting a third Oblivion Ring will result in an involuntary infinite loop that will end the game in a draw (unless someone chooses to break it by putting another nonland permanent onto the battlefield or destroying one of the Oblivion Rings, for example).
  • If the exiled card is an Aura, that card’s owner chooses what it will enchant as it comes back onto the battlefield. An Aura put onto the battlefield this way doesn’t target anything, but the Aura’s enchant ability restricts what it can be attached to. If the Aura can’t legally be attached to anything, it remains exiled forever.
  • Auras attached to the exiled permanent will be put into their owners’ graveyards. Equipment attached to the exiled permanent will become unattached and remain on the battlefield. Any counters on the exiled permanent will cease to exist.
